had been getting horrible clunk when going over humps over the last month and just been advised my upper ball joints are gone on one side(passengers side) and need to replace the 2 together if im going to get it done..is that right even though the other side makes no noise. I have seen LEMFORDER ones on EPC so am thinking of getting these, are they any good well atleast 20k miles or so before needing replaced again. Is this a job i could do myself or does the whole spring and shock need taking off to do this job? It looks straight forward judging by just looking at with the wheels off, I have replaced front discs and pads(brembo calliper) before on this car so i know a fair bit about repairs. Any advice from those who have done this job before is greatly appreciated

I've just changed all four upper and lower front ball joints, most of the knocking noise has gone but there's still a small knocking which is annoying me.
It was expensive to do the first 4 but I feel I need whatever's left to do fixing?

Did you do the work yourself?

No, that's where the expense came in. All 4 joints were £150 then £300 labour, took longer than expected.

That's sounds expensive for labour doesn't it? I'm doing the upper one myself at the weekend as they look straight forward. Had the lower ones done last year

It was £50 cheaper than using MB main dealer. I'm researching the indie section thread for future work.

My God they they were shot!

No just the front 2 upper ball joints. Steering nice and precise now and no more knocks over humps..happy days. £50.60 for 2 TRW joints from MisterAuto and about an hour to do both sides, took my time and cleaned the calipers whilst I was down there too

Do you need a ball joint separator or any special tools?

No need for a splitter. Just hit them hard with a hammer.

I purchased a small ball joint separater from EBAY for £8.90 which made the upper ones much easier to remove.
