w211 Isofix

Hi,

Daft question on a late 2009my w211 estate is isofix std or another option? I've looked all over the seats and can find no mounting points which seems v strange to me, my 53 plate disco has them as std.

Any assistance much appreciated

Might not be there - they only became mandatory around 2012. Must admit I was surprised my 2005 C Class didn't have them, although bolt in mounts are available for it.

My 203 and 211 both have them, both 04 models. There is a small triangular piece that runs along the join between seat and seat back which has a little isofix sign on it. The bars live under there. You can't miss it really so sadly it would seem yours doesn't. I'm amazed a car as new as that doesn't. The 203 ones have a great design, the bars flip out from under the seat back, makes engaging the child seat much easier. I'm just up the road in Calne should you want to see one.
ETA - actually we met a a food show in Bromham a few years ago!

Not sure why the isofix thing is so random , I had it on a yr 2000 Astra that did not even have ABS brakes !

Kits for retro fitting are usually available, I would imagine the bolt holes are in the floor pan.

Hidden away on my 05 too. The seem between the seat and back rest is covered by a strip that is velcro’d down quite tightly.. under there..

You can normally tell if you have isofix by spotting the little identity buttons fixed into the seat cover telling you where they are buried.

Iso fix was optional on many cars so not random, a choice of the original purchase order. Of course they became standard on many cars to make them more appealing.

Isofix brackets can be bought from Mercedes for the W211. Fairly simple job to install them though you will need a decent rivet gun.

Rivet gun ?? My (limited) experience in the car industry would put the fixing of safety devices in the 'A' category totally counting out them being rivet outside of VERY strict standards of such fixings .

I don't doubt that they are available but having first hand experience of the (almost) forensic testing on seat welds and rivets - microscopes are used - I for one would not trust a child's life on a home made rivet .

Full OEM kits supplied with the correct bolts with strict instructions on torque settings would be just as safe as those fitted in the factory...but not DIY rivets IMHO.

The full kit came with rivets supplied direct from Mercedes Brooklands. The independent mechanic who installed the isofix had to borrow a rivet gun as his was too weak for the job. I should have put a disclaimer that I am not recommending the kit, just stating it is available and how it was fitted.

I bought a different brand car to get round the issue and sold the Merc (unfortunately).

Exactly what I would have expected to happen due to the importance of getting it right ,and the legal implications for the fitter if it all goes horribly wrong . Hence me questioning the DIY rivet method mentioned previously whether done at home of at an MB dealership.

It was an Opel...same thing really , but that accounted for the oddness of it , different size wheels than a UK Vauxhall and a bigger battery . My late father in law bought it brand new in 2000 from a UK 'car supermarket' (remember them ?) . It ran faultlessly for 16 years until I sold it to a mate of mine . It's still going and has less rust on it than my 'premium brand' 2006 C55 AMG.

But I don't want it back , Ill stick to what I have now thanks
