Hi - my 2009 W211 saloon has developed a very annoying rattle from the area of the rear seat - passenger side which I think may be coming from the seat belt mounting. Can anyone help with how to remove the panel that covers the seat belt inertia reel fitting?

I have the exact same problem, but can't find where the rattle comes from. Iys not there all the time, but on a long motorway drive, it will come and go and it drives me bonkers! I wondered about the ashtray in the rear passenger door?

Interesting - I wonder if I too have the same issue.

I'm used to a nice quiet interior, but on some journeys a mysterious n/s/r rattle really gets to me. S211 in my case, but my kids reckon it's the rear seatbelt mounting area too.

It sounds nearer than that from the driver's seat, more like the centre armrest in the rear seat, but the kids (closer to the origin of the noise) are sure it's higher and slightly behind them, i.e. seatbelt mountings.

I wondered if it was something to do with the load cover mechanism on the back of the rear seats, but you saloon guys obviously won't have that, so I am now doubtful that this is the cause.

The panel cove the seat belt reel is cliped on . The remove the panel frist peel back the door seal then slide it foward to release the white plastic clip located towards the top foward edge . Next carfully bend out the front edge of the panel and look for the second clip . This clip is a spring steel type that slots between 2 slots on the back of the panel . The panel will then slid foward and off .
The raido amp is alsp located behind the passenger side panel , this could be the cause of the rattle

It will be under warranty. Take it to you nearest dealer.

My S211 had a rattle and so did my pal's S211. It turned out to be to a space between the metal hoop (that the rear backrest fastens onto in its upright position) and the back of the seat itself. I unclipped the seat to fold it forward then removed the rubber spacer that sits at the base of the hoop then the bolts that fasten the retaining hoop and packed them out a bit with some fat washers, just the bolts not the hoop. Then when you replace the rubber spacer it sits out a little more proud, clip the seat back and bingo...no rattle!:thumb:

Many thanks to everyone - some things to try there but I think I might send it back to the dealer! Its just that I know they will have it for the day, tell me its fixed and it will start again before I have left the car park!

Still, its the sensible route and who knows they might sort it!
