From that photo and because the wheel arch liner is in place its hard to tell just how crusty and widespread the corrosion is. It may not be as bad as you fear but if it were me I'd get it evaluated by a good garage who does welding repairs or better a welding specialist. Good luck!Hi.
While working on the car today to my horror I discovered rome rot near upper wishbone mounting on both sides
Would this cost an arm and a leg to weld ?
Thanks
Take the rear arch liners out to, They get crusty where the shocks bolt through the body and behind the shock itself,Will remove the arch liner , oh yes it was full of debris.
I guess that's not too bad.A welder just been around and quoted 400 quid to fix..... doesn't sound too bad I think , but will try and get another quote
Not yet , still waiting for another welder to come around and price up the jobThanks. Have you had any cheaper quotes yet?
Sorry to hear that. Is the MOT-er going to sort it for you?My car failed its MOT due to this yesterday -- both sides and wasn't an issue on last year's MOT.
The MOT is done by my regular Merc indy, so yes.Sorry to hear that. Is the MOT-er going to sort it for you?
I can feel a rising panic as well buddyI'm getting a bit twitchy about this myself. I'll be taking a look at my 211 when I get home from my break.
Kerr-Ching !I can feel a rising panic as well buddy
Got my hosepipe in there as well (after changing the upper ball joint on the wishbone) . It all looked ok but i sprayed some Dinitrol in the top of the shocks area just in case .I couldn't wait until I got home (I'm at our static) to see how mine is. Took off front wheels, nearside, after blasting all the silt out with a hose is virtually as new. Offside has a fair amount of surface rust but afterpoking about with a screwdriver it seems solid enough. Obviously I haven't removed the sheilds yet so that may reveal more issues. I'll treat with dinitrol rc900 then some underseal and see how it goes.
Yep mine too. Still not happy until I've found time to take off both liners and inspect. If as good as I hope I'll treat the rust and see how it goes. At least it can be repaired for a bit less than a king's ransom if the worst is found.Got my hosepipe in there as well (after changing the upper ball joint on the wishbone) . It’s like the bodywork has a metal shelf to trap dirt behind the spring . I reckon the dirt was 2“ deep in one of the areas !
