Hi

So I have to replace my left side Xenon bulb now I thought I could walk into Halfords/ eurocarparts and just buy a bulb.

I have been told it is best to replace both, is this true or marketing gimmicks?

Also when looking online I can see that there is something called “ Litronic Xenon”. Tried to research the difference between “Xenon” & “ litronic Xenon” and most keep diverting me to Porsche forums, a few I have seen have said there not worth the extra money.

So do I need to replace both bulbs ?

And what’s the difference between “Xenon” & “Litronic Xenon” and is it worth the extra money ?

Also what is the best OEM brand to buy? I was thinking Bosch but can’t seem to find any.

Since I have received sensible and correct information on here in the past I thought I would ask you guys.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello Mav I have moved your post into the right section for you. As for the bulbs their advice was actually correct it is best to change Xenon bulbs in pairs due to the colour shift. Xenon bulbs start of more yellow and only turn crisp white after a burn in period. If you only replaced the one the colour against the working old one would not match and neither would the light output. Go for Osram or Philips they are OEM. Be careful if buying online though there are a lot of copies that are sometimes hard to spot.

So looking at Osram, there are a few options available so was wondering which would be better in sense of brightness and longevity

D2s Night breaker unlimited (70%)

D2SCB 5500k

D2S 4300k

D2S night breaker laser ?

4300k is the oem bulb temp

I went for 6000k, in my opinion, brighter and more white, just what I wanted...

I know LOL It's always bugged me about that photo and I've wanted to re take it for ages, but am just too lazy. But thanks for pointing it out :p

I changed my xenon bulbs recently, you may find my thread of interest (or not LOL)

xenon bulbs - one yellow, one blue?

Actually quite interesting, I am glad I am not the only one surprised by the cost of a light bulb lol

Have a funny feeling Mercedes don’t put the bulb type or rating in its user manual so you have to pay them to change a bulb, and I’m the type that feel quite stupid paying someone to change a bulb

Did you find a big difference with the 6000k bulb compared to the oem bulb ?

It’s not just a normal bulb though. Xenon bulbs last much much longer.

A genuine pair of OSRAMs from Amazon are £70. (Make sure they are ‘sold by’ Amazon themselves to ensure authenticity)

Although, lots of folk have had success with cheaper alternatives from eBay etc.

I went for OEM Philips 4300K on mine. Nice bright, white light. 4300K is the OEM colour temperature.

I must confess that currently, I don't drive much at night(!), but just automatically go for 6000k bulbs as I've used them in my other car for about 10 years! (a Celica GT4). I mainly like the colour purely for aesthetic reasons. I just think the OEM colour looks old fashioned, but there's nothing intrinsically wrong with them...

What's in the fogs ?

The light is more pure .

Depends on your budget really:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FQ8AVHS/?tag=amazon0e9db-21

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FYTN7VF/?tag=amazon0e9db-21

A fair price considering a pair, genuine and an upgrade over the stock bulb.

So managed to do passenger side in about 10 minutes

The driver side I can’t seem to get the connector to turn, it slots in fine just doesn’t want to turn, any ideas why this would occur? I am putting the same pressure as I did on the passenger side but still no luck.

Folks, i wanted to confirm the dipped is the main cover, big lense?
And main beam is the smaller lense? Cars a face lift w211, ive checked the reg on website, anyone know if i should just remove the headlights to replace the bulbs? Isn't much space, even getting the plastic cover off was difficult

D1S dipped beam

Main Beam H7
