Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before I did have a look but I was unable to find the answer,

I'm going to test drive a e400 w212 2014 tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for what to look out for in regards of issues/warning signs during the test drive and or while looking at the car itself? it's my first time driving/potentially owning a Mercedes so I don't really know what to look for.

Many thanks

Presume petrol?

Only the usuals.
Check electrics, (windows, seats, lights)
check electronics (media, Nav, parking sensors etc)
Is it due a gearbox service (every 5 years)?
Service history both up-to-date and to MB schedule.
Wheels and tyres okay?
Smoke from engine under load?
Paint or Damage?
Has it been modified/ mapped?

If it's the 3l or 3.5l, with the turbos it can really fly and still give okay mpg.
I have the coupe - it's great.

Let us know how you get on

Thanks for the reply, So late when I posted it I should of given more details. It's from a Mercedes dealer, petrol 3.0 biturbo 333bhp coupe I believe.

Hi , My E400 has had a couple of recalls , front passenger airbag and drivers airbag.

My car has the Pano roof which I think is excellent.

I run my car on the super fuels because I do so few miles in a year.

Check brake pads and discs.

I found on my car the Continental tyres 5P although gripped well did not last very long.

I have recently fitted Goodyear Assi 5 / to early to give any info.

Although a couple will take four adults in ( if not to tall in the rear ) Comfort.

Is the car Mercedes approved ?

For a coupe very practical.

You've seen it by now, so I hope you've considered rear access.

Space in the back is fine, once you're in but there's no getting away from the fact it's a bit of a job getting into it (gracefully or otherwise).

And a pano roof is a great option on all coupes

I did buy the car after all done 80 miles and no complaints :D

@fabes it's got the folding seats and it's only going to be me mainly in it rarely il have rear passengers, it does not have a Pano roof but I never had one so it's not a big deal for me I think the only options it missing is Pano roof and the dynamic cruise control.

@Boyband it's from a main dealer so it comes with the approved warranty so should be good they going to send me all the stuff they did to it before I brought it so will check once it arrives.

thanks again both of you for your advice :)
