Hi All,

When my 212 was supplied it came with set of brand new discs and so all the hub carriers (is that what they're called?) were nice and silver. 3 winters on and they're somewhat corroded and it's slightly irritating as the wheels are very see-through.

I'm sure I've read threads about wire brushing them and paining them with some sort of rust-inhibiting silver paint.

Anyone done it?

Sand down and then paint with hammerite

As above - wire brush or scotchpad and some silver hammerite should smarten them up

The spray can will give the best finish - but you will need to carefully mask/cover everything up (and do it on a non-windy day!)

Good time to do the wheel bolts too (if needed). Poke them into some cardboard, clean them up and a light dusting of silver will tidy those 100% :thumb:

Aha - good idea.

But now I've seen that picture I'll have to do the wheelbolts too! And clean my bloody callipers!!

LOL.

Wire brush the hub, then use a kitchen scourer, until nice and smooth, then (if you've got one use a garden blower to blow all the dust away. Then I used, Halfords High Temperature Engine paint,
(not caliper paint, take it from me it does a cracking job) still looking good after 18 months, I used Black, for the hubs and red for the calipers.
The pic of the hub has got a spacer on, DON'T paint the hub face, only the side. :)

Nice I like that. I assume you took the callipers off or at least un-bolted them?

Have a look at THIS THREAD.

It was only last week when I did mine due to boredom...

Thanks Dave, more useful tips.

As all I can find (at a reasonable price) is a tin of paint I guess I'll be able to avoid the need to mask.

But looking at all these amazing pics makes me realise how rusty the brake pad clips on mine are.

Will this ever end??

:-)

Bugger. Price gouging. £35! Must be a lot of hub fettling going on out there.......
Wow..hadn’t noticed the price, was less than a tenner a can when I last bought some.

Could try Halfords or Euros if they’re open/have stock? :thumb:

Have a look at Prestige Car Service on youtube. It shows what disc to use to clean up the hubs.
