Hi All,

Looking for advice. Proud owner of a 2021 E300DE. The car is fantastic apart from a low speed/idle rattle from the engine compartment. Happens at between 800 and 1200 rpm. It is not a normal diesely sound and resonates in the cabin

I've had a look around the engine bay and have checked the cabin air filters on the passenger side and any loose hoses behind the engine bay. I next checked the air intake and air intake filter box. All looks secure and fastened. However after my check of these components, the rattle has gotten marginally worse. Which leads me to believe this is the main culprit

I still have warranty with a Mercedes dealer but what is the best thing to say for them to take this seriously and not fob me off?

For reference, this guy has the exact same rattle.

I had another look under the hood with no success so I'll try and get it sorted under warranty.

However under the driver side cover I found a box that doesn't seem to be secured. It's not the source of the rattle but should this be secured with screws?

Ok I found the issue. Seems the air intake into the air filter box wasn't connected up properly. I'd checked this before and had seemed ok but I completely disconnected and reconnected it and the rattle is gone. Hopefully permanently.

Just to close this out. The rattle came back. Sent in for warranty and in Fairness to the mechanic he went on a drive with me and we reproduced exactly where it came from. Where the raw air intake takes the air in just above the radiator, the plastic clips don't hold the snorkel tight enough. In older om654 cars, this piece is screwed in (see screenshot) not anymore and play can develop. They are going to replace the part but in the mean time a zip tie has completely eliminated the rattle.
