W213 Top of boot behind seats

Hi,
The ceiling of the boot space behind the rear seats of my E class is bare. The wires that let the rear seats fold are exposed. Took it back to the dealer thinking they had left a part out after the recent work they did on the suspension but they said it was normal as they had another one there that was the same. Is this right? Seems odd to me that the wires would be exposed to suitcases etc.

Most cars are like this to be honest.

I've had a Jaguar, Ford, Mercedes, BMW, all the same bare area that you don't really 'see' normally.

I covered the loose wires with 'duck tape' . Saved getting them caught on anything in the boot.
