Hi guys,

I seem to have a serious transmission problem with my "brand new" w214 e220d 4matic.

Right before the car stops, the whole car shakes. Sometimes very softly, sometimes harder. The strength of the shaking varies. I feel like down hill it is mostly more pronounced.
To observe this behavior the car should come down from 2nd to 1st and then to a whole stop. Slowly..
They did some "adaptation" and "coding" for the transmission and told me to drive for a while and bring it back if the issue persists. And guess what. It does..

They have been trying to figure out the problem for 2 weeks. No luck.

This is something you cannot realize if start/stop is activated.

Have you seen anything like this. Service guys say they did not.
It is very frustrating and very disappointing to see such an error in a "flagship" mercedes.

My previous 5 series never did anything like this :(

Welcome to the forum:thumb:
Although very disappointing, you do have the advantage of the warranty on a new car.
Keep returning it until you are happy the fault is fixed.
Worst case scenario is Mercedes authorise a new transmission if the dealer can't fix it.
Keep a record of the time Mercedes have the car for repairs.

Hey AMGeed,

Thanks for the response.
Yes, I have the advantage of the guarantee but any fixes or replacement of transmission in a new car results in a HUGE value loss in my country.
Actually, I would never accept a fix or replacement for transmission. I would only accept software fixes, or maybe some chip replacements?..
If they cannot resolve the problem without any part fixes or replacements I will have to legally demand a new car. (unless they offer me the same without me going in the legal direction)
I think I am entitled to it as my lawyer friend informed me, and also suggested I do so.
We will see how it goes.. I will let you guys know what is happening and how mercedes is handling or not handling the situation..

Consumer law in Turkey is obviously different to the UK.
I hope you get things resolved to your satisfaction.

Out of interest, how would a purchaser of your car know that the transmission had been replaced?

Hey William, thru the service history of course. When I buy a car, if it is used, I always check the service history. Just go to the service with the owner and ask for it.
In my case the fix would be performed in the mb official service and it would have a record. If it was done at another repair shop, you wouldn’t know it..

Fair enough - I didn't know it would appear in the car's service history (it's hardly a 'service' item after all!), and I'm surprised Mercedes would be keen to advertise the fact that a gearbox failed so early on to subsequent owners. I wouldn't have thought that would happen here in the UK (although I've never bought a new car so can't be sure).

Yeah, here they wouldn’t replace a screw without recording it:)

SService history in the UK is just that, a history of servicing

Items replaced under warranty are not recorded in that record.

Interesting.. Here they are recorded. And I would like to know that..

Knowing that a car has had a replacement of a major component early in its life wouldn't be a problem for me though. 👍

Yep. And I can understand that. I would tend to thing the same.
But it seems to be a cultural thing and a big problem here unfortunately. So I need to act considering my circunstances :(
