Having got through both rear tyres (Goodyear F1 Assym 2s) in 2 years and 8,000 odd miles, I have opted to replace with Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2s. Wheels are 18" original Difdas sporting 265/40/R18 but I am replacing with 275/40s ... which were actually much cheaper. Cost is €259, or c.£226, delivered to the garage, but not fitted/balanced.

I toyed with going up to 19" or even 20" aftermarket wheels but decided against in the light of the views expressed on here.

In doing so, I couldn't find which larger wheels were specified as a factory option. I did find this below, American site but it does say European model .. what isn't clear is if the wheels options set out there are official Mercedes ones ... it even mentions 21"!

I'm thinking about the need to disclose anything which is not within the original spec and official options, as they're very tight on that over here with regard to insurance disclosure.

Can anyone point me to the official wheel options for the car, please? Many thanks.

Highly recommended

As above. The 19 inch amg wheels that were standard in the cl55 look great to my eye.

I have 20" on my Jag XKR (18" originals) and they suit the proportions of the car very well. The CL is bigger and I do think that 20" will also suit the shape and size equally well. However, the CL is more of a cruiser and the question for me is one of whether 20" will compromise the ride .... and to go down 2 levels of profile from 40 to 30 will do that.

Any thoughts on that, rather than the aesthetics? The CL55 is more of a sporty set up to the 600 ... but I just love the shape of the W215.

20 inch will more than compromise the ride. They will ruin it!. I moved one inch up on my wifes sl and it made a huge difference. negatively.

Yet people call it upgrading instead of upsizing.

Upgrading visually only to many negatives associated with reduced tyre aspect ratio and increased unsprung mass .

Thanks for the pic! Wheels look really good.

I'll go for 19s, but with a similar design to yours, I think - they look much bigger than the 1" difference.

Thanks again.
