W216 CL500 advice needed for front tyres - Michelins or cheap imports

Yep, I have a W109 300SEL 3.5 in my shop that looks liked it's been beaten with a baseball bat. I've seen cars where the roof is level with the top of doors after a hail storm.

Going back to tires, at 60mph, you're traveling 5280ft/minute. A 20ft gap in a braking test is something like 1/4 second which is well in the margin of human error. I'm not suggesting that all off brand tires are as good as a new Michelin. Just that the difference is not as huge what some have suggested.

Apologies, it's early here. 5280ft per minute is 88ft / second. 20ft is ~ 1/4 second
