Hi Guys

I have a U.K. spec RHD Vito w447 compact panel van.
It’s got 3 seats up front & a bulkhead.

I am wanting to put a leisure battery in to run an inverter & I am wondering if anyone has fitted one under the passenger seats?
It does seem to be quite tight and I am struggling to find a battery suitable enough.
I was even wondering if a leisure battery could be specced as an extra when new and if so how this is done?
Failing the passenger seats or bulkhead I’d have to run the cabling to the back of the van

I think the Vito takes an auxillary battery under the driver seat as an option or retrofit. (Sprinters take one in the engine compartment.)

Otherwise, fitting depends what battery size/ capacity/ technology you have in mind?

There’s already a battery under my drivers seat? I presumed this was the main battery?

There's an MB Owners Club video here:

There is just one under the seat? (Same size as in video?)

Yeah, one battery under the seat. Can’t seem to find one anywhere else.
This is pointing me towards this as being the main battery

hence the question of wanting to put a support battery to run an inverter elsewhere

There are several thread from other sites on this subject, plus elsewhere references to fuse positions for auxillary and 'additional' batteries. I don't have a Vito, but again, if I was installing an additional battery I'd size it by working out what capacity I needed and then figure out where to put it. Did you calculate an Amp-hour value already? Connecting two or more smaller batteries to give sufficient capacity is also an option if you really want to fit them in the underseat space.

With the Sprinter, there is a factory option for a second one, or retrofit kits with brackets.

If your Vito is a newer model with a smart alternator you won’t be able to fit a standard split charge relay you’ll need a more advanced system circa £300+
