Hi all,

New to forum and have not been able to find a related post.

I have a 2013 Vito w639.

Issue
Intermittent wipers only, washer pump only or both switch on

Things I’ve noticed
  1. Mostly happens on hot days. Has happened on cold and normal days here and there
  2. When occurring it seems to start and stop when accelerating.
    1. Stops when slowing down or breaking and starts up again when accelerating.
  3. Tapping on stalk does not seem to change anything or make a difference.
    1. Only change is when I switch wipers to high speed.
  4. removed stalk and connectors looked clean and working fine
  5. wipers stop when remove fuse or remove relay
  6. does not seem to be a relay or fuse for wiper pump
  7. Note sure if rear wipers or pump is affected

I had similar with the rear wiper, a new motor fixed it.

Mine was just rear wiper.

Tbh I'm not sure what you are saying is happening with yours.
If both front and rear wipers, and pumps, are doing erratic things then that would suggest a faulty SAM.
Has your fuse unclosure suffered any water ingress?

Only had the van for 6 months so water ingress could be possible before purchased.

I’m short the wipers and pump just start on their own mainly when the van is cold or has not been started for 5 or more hours.

Also happens more often in hot days

Usually keeps going for about 10mins then stops.

Very erratic and annoying.

If this is only the front washer and wipers I would suggest the stalk. That's common to both, but so is the SAM. I don't see that a fuse or relay are common to both.
If this includes the rear wiper doing its own thing then it would be the SAM, as nowt else is common to both.

If water got to the SAM (located below the fuse carrier) I would expect the strange happenings in less than 6 months.
But it might well effect any of many functions, not just wipers.

Sometimes the lid isn't seated properly, or the fuse enclosure is distorted, so ingress is then very possible.
The drains, in the front, should direct the water from the screen down the sides and egresses between inner and outer wings. They are a deficient design and don't. Often rain is finding its way close, or onto, the fuse enclosure. To me it is crucial to be sure it is well sealed. In there is the SAM, ECU and TCU, non like moisture.

You might find this useful
