Wanting a CLS 55 AMG - questions

Hey there,

I'm looking to get another car which I can use for everyday driving (I already have a S320 cdi LWB - 06 but it's not very practical a lot of the time) I've always been a big fan of the CLS's and have never had a proper fast car like an AMG before and I am seriously tempted.

As many of you will know, the prices don't seem that unreasonable with cls55's starting at £27k+. As this in effect will be a 2nd car; I don't want it costing all that much money. Does anyone who has a 2005 AMG whether CLS or other have a breakdown of the costs involved with running one over and above a normal car?

This is what I'm thinking in yearly costs for an CLS AMG (with prices for a normal car such as a new C class in brackets)

Extended warranty: £1000 (£0)
Road tax: £400 (£200)
Insurance: £900 (£500)
Servicing/MOT: £800 (£300)
Tyres & consumables (ie brakes): £1000 (£400)
Fuel: ?

Do you guys think this is about right? Grand total of £4100 without fuel; am I grossly overestimating it?

With the fuel, how much more would it be compared to a S320 cdi in percentage terms?

Cheers

Extended warranty: £1500 MB - Inchcape is £700 (no Comand cover)
Road tax: £400
Insurance: £900 ?? depends on your circumstance, I pay £575
Servicing/MOT: £800 on a good year
Tyres & consumables (ie brakes): £500 I am on original pads and discs at 24k miles, rears last 15k miles absolute tops, fronts 20k
Fuel: 15mpg town 25 mpg run

Best car I have ever had and worth every penny, if you can afford it then get it you wont regret it

cheers DSLiverpool, the tyres last a lot more than I expected. Even my S320's tyres last less than that. I'm gonna look into this; like I said very tempted.

Mine's a C and a 32 rather than a CLS and a 55, but I don't think there's much difference with regards to cost apart from amount of oil and spark plugs.

If you shop around and haggle you can bring servicing costs down a lot - supply your own oil for example.

As an aside. A colleague was telling me about the service cost of his 335d on Friday - he'd negotiated down from £297 to £207 and was rightly chuffed. I suggested that he phone back and ask how much if he supplies the oil. He emailed yesterday to say it's down to £74. ;)

I'm sure the fuel costs more than your 32 aswell?

If you're enthusiastic with the 55 engine, it can return 7mpg.

As zuby84 had excluded fuel from his cost total, I didn't mention it.

In reality the C32 ought to be slightly better that a CLS55 on fuel, as it's lighter and has a smaller capacity. However I don't think it would be a night and day difference assuming you drive in the same style.

I think the Autocar Road Test returned a single digit fuel consumption figure on the C32 for track testing too.
