Was I cheated?

I wonder what an MB dealer would offer as a trade in allowance on it, would it be based on 2011 or 2006 MY?

DVLA info.

Hope the OP gets this amicably resolved, but also hope that the details are corrected before someone else suffers the same dilema.
I would think that the 'mistake', deliberate or not, lies with whoever imported the car from the Irish Republic. Previous owner or dealer he bought it from?

The charitable side of me thinks the dealer was perhaps misled too, as was the OP. However digging into company checks, reviews, the fact the eBay account has only one review on it, all seems a bit suspicious.

It does say at the very top of the ebay description "THE ONLY ONE IN THE UK!!", so the dealer know that much and thought that might have lead the conversation to what does that Mean ??

It was the only one made in 2006 being sold as a 2011, so in that sense the description is accurate.

Really feel for the OP. I hope things work out for him.

Being a dealer in fine motors I wouldn't have a leg to stand on when the OP came back. Refund is simply made. Whether the dealer knew or not or is a scallywag doesn't come into it, the car isn't as represented. Of course I don't live in the UK ...

I know the usefulness of trading standards was questioned above but I don't think many car dealers are on their xmas card list to start with so I could imagine them taking a fairly dim view.
I would also suggest the OP contacting the advertisers trade with this dealer if he does not get satisfaction.
When I worked at Autotrader I saw/heard things dealers would do that would blow your mind.

Due to cutbacks, Trading Standards doesn't really exist as far the consumer is concerned now. The Government also closed down Consumer Direct.

Most local authorities will direct you to the local Citizens Advice Bureau. There's supposed to be a system for picking up repeat offenders but I've no idea if that works.

Lets hope he does and that it wasn't just a dig at that particular car dealership.

There was a thread a while ago, where a new member started from ranting on about the poor service he allegedly received from a garage which repaired his car.
Later on it turned out it was quite a different story from what he described it as.

The OP showed you the Advert + the Data card confirmed it was not a genuine car. So it must have a hidden agenda ??

I would think with all the off topic rubbish that has been spouted on this thread you won't see him for dust, which is a shame

Have we heard how this guy got on yet?

As he only logged on to ask about the car... and then got the answers he wanted plus a copy of the data card... let's hope that he did not come back because he did not need to - he took it up with the dealer and they agreed an immediate refund.

As for all of us here who helped with info and advice... virtue is its own reward.

That dealer has a lot of interesting cars. 288 on ebay at the moment.

A couple of years ago there was a brand new unregistered mk5 cortina on ebay from a dealership that used to have it on display. What year of registration should that have had on it, if registered new when it was sold, it would have got a 12 plate, regardless of when it was built.

So in fairness to the dealer, if it was not previously registered the 60 plate is legit, if it was second hand and then imported the yes the 06 plate would then be required

There's hardly been time for a resolution. The post first appeared on here less than a week ago and the problem could take months to reach a conclusion, if at all.

Before confronting the dealer in depth why not question the previous registered keeper and DVLA to discover as much as possible of the car's history? You need to know as much as possible before tackling someone of this ilk.

Seems clear that the issue revolves around the import and re-registration of the vehicle, and the crux of any case against the dealer would be his liability in regard to whether he knew, or could reasonably expected to have known the true situation. Was he hoodwinked through lack of expertise, or was he just trying to make an extortionate profit?

Makes you wonder how many other such vehicles are around.

Regardless of the plate... or if the dealer knew... the issue here is that the car is not what it was purchased as and it is worth less than was thought, so who should incur the cost?
