Just thought I'd share a recommendation for Wavetrac and Regal Autosport.

Having had a Quaife before in a Z4 I would now recommend a Wavetrac instead. I'm getting more traction off the line than the Z4 with half the power/torque. There's a strong sense of connection between the rear axle and my right foot. It was £1,599 fitted and Regal Autosport have a very nice garage. It's clean, you can watch through the viewing window and they have some tasty metal on site. The owner has a 997.1 GT3 and a Huracan plus I saw Aston Martins, Lamborghini, Panamera Turbo, Corvette... If you are still running open do yourself a favour and go and see Regal Autosport who are the UK distributors for Wavetrac.

I got given pictures after my visit and Chris Stewart came out to explain how much backlash there was and what they got it to afterwards.

Is that your 204 estate? I’m wondering what wheels those are, they look like 19” versions of the 18” C63 wheels.

I had a Wavetrac on my 135i. It was very good and I’d have one again due to how well it gripped and allowed progress out of corners.

I’m not sure how it compares to the Quaife though, what are their differences?

The party trick of the wavetrac is that its the best of both types of LSD.
Quaife is an ATB (Automatic Toque Bias) style of diff which is best known for road applications but in a zero grip situation they behave more like an open diff... Ie you've hit a kerb on a track day and are off the ground, or you are in mud or snow or just straight up drifting.
A gripper diff for example is a plate type diff which behaves like an open diff until a loss of traction and the plate/clutch closes until the wheels are at the same speed, locked which means you have the same power to both wheels regardless of traction! IE what you want for drifting for a controllable slide.

Wavetrac have developed a mechanism that it behaves like an ATB unti lthe point it looses all traction on one side and then locks like a plate diff. They are awesome.... I may have one... :D

Funny you should say that about the wheels. I was very tempted by the 18" standard wheels that have solid spokes as they look ace imo. The problem is I want to use PS4S not PS4 tyres so had to stick to 19". It is very hard to find aftermarket wheels with a high enough offset on the rear so I kept trawling through the Mercedes wheels. I had discounted this one that's from a 205 C63 because I'd found out the wheels are too wide with too low an offset. Then I discovered that's only the coupe wheels and the ones on the saloon/estate fit. They are 0.5" wider so I can run 245/265 with ideal rim width and the offset is 38/56 which is about 13mm wider on the front to fill those bulging arches and 4mm wider on the rear where there's less clearance.

The Quaife feels similar but the Wavetrac 'locks up' better in certain scenarios.
