Hi Guys, really need your advice. I am trying to find out what gearbox oil that should be used in my car. I have rang a MB dealer and they have advised it should be the 236.15(which is blue). But on looking into this abit more it seems that my vehicle which i believe has the 722.6 gearbox (could be wrong) should have the 236.14(which is red). I have had issues since the gearbox oil has been changed (has been done twice, each time with a different colour oil) so suspecting the wrong oil was used. I'm hoping a gearbox oil change and flush with the correct oil will solve my issues. Any advice greatly appreciated. TIA Alex

Alex.

Welcome to the Forum

It would help if you gave details of the vehicle, model, age etc, possibly the VIN so someone can run a full check and look at the exact transmission type. 👍

Hi David,

Thank you.

Yeah sorry that probably would help wouldn't it 🤦.
It's a 2010 clc220 cdi.
VIN is WDB2037082E081018.

Thanks 😊

Cheers.

Is it a 5 speed or 7 speed?

From its age I think that it should be the red ATF.

I think the Blue was used in the 7G+

You are very welcome.

Who changed it and used the Blue fluid?

If damage has been caused then they are responsible for the repair cost.

It was my other half 😂.

He generally pays for the repairs anyway(especially as nothing so far has fixed it).

Although when we questioned the part supplier on the oil we was ensured that it was the correct oil supplied and they had matched it with the MB part number.
Could well be correct in what they are saying seeing as even MB parts department told me the incorrect oil.

I'm guessing from some of the things I've read that my car maybe on a change over between the 236.14 & 236.15 gearbox oils and that's where the contradicting info is coming from (again this is just a guess).

Fingers crossed it hasn't done any damage and will be sorted with the correct oil 🤞

I thought that the 5 speed only ever used the 4134 type.

My 7 speed does, it was the move to 7G +that I think that required he different fluid specification

See here : HOW TO: change the automatic gerbox oil and flush on a 722.6 'box | HOWTO

This is how it is fully drained and changed 👍

My understanding, having looked into this issue years ago, is that the blue fluid was introduced with the 7g+ gearbox, as stated by an earlier poster. However, I don't have any technical documents to prove that point.
