What is the warranty situation with older EV?

My parents have matching his & hers Honda Hazz. Watch out for rust and gearbox issues on series one cars, They love them.
Good. Lord, rust on 20 year old cheap Hondas ??

Thank heavens that we don’t see that on Mercedes, eh?

Both the rust and gearbox issues were not an uncommon issue when they were relatively new.

My parents had both the tailgate and drivers door repainted by by the main dealer at 4 years old at no cost by the main dealer at no cost, and had the gearbox repaired when it was 5 years old at their own cost - the main dealer didn’t even want to repair/replace the gearbox never mind pay for it.

We didn’t expect either issue on such a new Honda, and we didn’t expect the dealer to have no interest - never mind goodwill - regarding such a major repair. Honda UK dismissed completely dismissed the gearbox when contacted too.

The paintwork was done because the main dealer was proactively contacting “all affected customers”, so not an isolated incident. The independent gearbox specialist who refurbished the gearbox said he was performing the same repair on Jazzes of the same age ona weekly basis.

They still have it15 years later, and they shortly afterwards bought another Jazz a year or two later, so it didn’t put him off the Honda Jazz. At the time Mercedes had a shocking reputation for such issues but Honda was unblemished. I suspect there wee far fewer, far older Jazz owners…

Interesting story. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that kind of tale about either the Jazz or the Accord. It is remarkable how many old Jazz are still rocking around a decade or two later.

I was looking after a relative's Honda Jazz for a number of years. They're indestructible...

It was a 2002 car, SORNed for the last two years, and parked in an underground car park with the battery disconnected. It was gifted to a family friend, who reconnected the battery, started the car, then took it to an MOT testing station and it passed first time. I just checked the MOT history and the car is still going strong (albeit with a long list of advisories....).

The second generation car has been rock solid. The first generation car had the gearbox and rust issues, and one other repair, but I can’t think for the life of me what it was

May be time to get Mrs. Gollom a new chariot and an EV would suit her perfectly (very low local mileage - and we can charge on the drive) Seen this and wondered what the warranty situation is on 9-12 year old EV? Can you buy extended warranties that include the battery?

Any other general comments most welcome
If you could get a years warranty ?
I would guess only from a main dealer and I doubt they would sell a car that old ?
I would be more concerned at the worst case scenario that you need a new battery just outside any warranty , what would that cost vs a petrol car of the same age ?
