What is this above my CD changer?

See photo of my Nov02 E220 W211 interior, there's an opening above the CD changer it almost looks like an over sized cassette tape! The operator manual shows a slightly different variation, this object is not shown.

Any ideas? I assuming its something to do with a phone? I have the buttons for a phone (Maybe all E's have this) but its says "No phone connected" when pressed. No leads apparent in the center consoles.

An audio 20CC, fitted standard until the 2004 model year (oh yes, we still apparently used tapes this century!!).

Very different to the Audio 20 CD in that it has a seperate AGW (like the original Comand) rather than an all in one box solution (like the Audio 20CD and NTG2.5 Comand).
