What is this? Screen in rear view mirror?

ok I’ve googled myself to death on this one. So now I’m coming to you guys. What the hell is this little screen in my rear view mirror. It’s a standard bit of kit. I pulled the interior light out to see the wiring but it’s all standard merc stuff. Part numbers on the mirror are

A046274

It’s an old 2008 Viano V350, W639, that I’ve just bought.

I need to grab my laptop to upload some pictures if needed

The only time I've seen similar is in an after market reverse camera type rear view mirror.

I tried similar to the link but the mirror itself was too dark tinted for my liking.

Yer I thought maybe it was some add on crap but the cabling is all standard. I was expecting to see an obvious set of RCA leads or something

It's got auto dimming mirror too but this is an extra screen built in. There must be another vehicle with this fitted

Is this a Japanese import?
As an 08 petrol it sounds like it.

Those had much more bits and bats so may be less easy to find it in the UK.
Is there anything in the manual, I don't remember seeing it but I don't read every page?

Is this a Japanese import?
As an 08 petrol it sounds like it.

Those had much more bits and bats so may be less easy to find it in the UK.

I appreciate this is a very old thread, but there isn't much that pops up from a Google other than this thread.

I have just bought an 09 Jap import 3.5v6 and I have just discovered this screen myself. Mine seems to show down the left hand side of the vehicle perhaps for parking close to the kerb?

Mine also has a hugely upgraded stereo and rear view camera. I keep finding new toys, I've only had it a week.

Try running the VIN through an online VIN decoder, it will show what options were fitted in the factory to your imported CLS 500.

This website gives a fair bit of free information including import/export, VIc check warnings etc after you enter the reg & mileage. No need to go any further than that stage.

Another give away of a japanese import would be a square/ rectangular front numberplate.

Remember all 'van like' imports from japan come with a rear downward looking mirror that can be seen by the driver through his rear view mirror . And they have an additional small wing mirror actually on the wing. (if they have a wing) My guess is that this is an electronic version.

Just got a Viano (Japenese import converted to campervan). Guys who convert them told me its a kerb parking camera & they rarely work well. My 09 plate is very blurry so they were spot on.
