What's the best cabriolet ?

Mk1 MX5

It doesn't meet your criteria I know, but don't spend £10k, spend £1-2k instead. Rev it high, keep the speed through the corners and you'll have great fun in it. Value for money, it's the number 1 convertible car to have. But in all seriousness, the Porsche Boxster sounds like it will meet your needs.
Do the Porkas not have engine issues that are quite major? I'd research it carefully although on paper its the best sports car blend of fun and comfort.

S2000 for ease of running (its a toy, it should make life better, not worse) be a more worthy recommendation.

I secretly suspect its the 645i thats in with the shout:D

For me I've put the RMS issue as one exaggerated on the internet. For sure it's there, but not as common as it seems.

There's a reason to not buy almost any car when you read enough forums. But it seems a shame not to experience a car as good as the Boxster because of some modest risk.

RMS will be sorted or never an issue on BS 986s in your price range.

Boxsters are so common now, especially since the price dropped into the 5K range for some! There are other Porsche cabriolets that are much better - 964, 993, 996 if you want rear engine etc, my personal preference is 968 or 944S2 - 968 cabs are very rare animals, I believe only about 250 were ever brought to UK and only about 120 still on the road. Front engines are much easier to work on, and there are plenty of specialist indies to help keep costs down!

E46 Alpina cab. Bloody nice car.

I'm sure the Boxster is a fantastic car but I could never have one ... purely because of the 'pushme-pullyou' looks. The latest incarnation (saw a pic in the paper this week) does look a bit more like a proper car though, so it's improving :D

The new SLK55AMG is amazing, imo

E92M3 DCT is also very good, much better than the E46M3 CAB
