Whats the best car diagnostic tool?

Last week I replaced my alternator. And it wasn't that hard, I saved $400 bucks by doing it myself. So I want to start doing tune ups, fixing minor things, etc in my car.

I am a noob, so I'll probably be posting here a lot. But I want to get a tool to help diagnose my car - like the one my mechanic has. What is the best one to get?

I use an iCcarsoft i980 for day to day use when I don't want to get my Star system out.

The latest iCarsoft MB 2.0 is a very sophisticated and useful tool that can interrogate and re-set many MB specific systems and sub-systems. Be wary when buying, only buy from the manufacturer as there are some fakes for sale.

Star is the ultimate but needs it's licences to be kept current and is really only of use to workshops or very experienced home users

As above iCarsoft buy the latest one MB2,if money was no object then buy Star but you will also need lessons on how to get the best out of it,so best go with iCarsoft,not sure how much they are in the US but use it twice and it has paid for itself,as over here the garages will charge £50 just to put their star on your car for fault diagnosis

iCarsoft MB V2 all the way....a good safe diagnostic tool. And as previously mentioned here on the forum, only buy from supplier's recommended here.
