Got broken plastic to air pump that I change out and had a check under there where the airmatic pump and filters are. Do some know how often you need to change the filter? Do not find anything about that in MB WIS. Thinking to remove the pump and change all clamps and do a proper service before it start to failure don't feel to good about how it look with bracket that have rust as well.

Here you can se video how to remove plastic if you going to have a look under your car, its really easy task.

Here you can se the parts.

All estate got this self levelling rear system. Some cars have it in front as well and that's its the airmatic air suspension system.

Check out (and resurrect) silica beads at same time. In our climate I would say every second year service recommended (if not annually). You probably won't have as bad freezing problems but deffo moist climate.

I’m curious to know if any compressor maintenance is included in the standard services? Or is the official approach to just replace the compressor when it fails? Mine is coming up 10 now and has done 80,000 miles so I’ve wondered if I should be getting anything done to prolong life...

Thank you! Live over in arctic circle and here we have long cold winter. Going to look up all parts online and do a order. Think going to replace the bracket that have rust as well.

Have check all maintain documents in Mercedes WIS program same as workshops use and not find anything about compressor not even the air filter.

Personally I would treat it as a service item and change it every, say, couple of years. I recently changed the one on my car, which looked like the original item, as I was changing the valve block and the cylinder head and piston in the pump. There had been no air going through the filter anyway as the rubber pipework was split everywhere. The filter element was solid with crap (hence the valve block needing replacement) The pump is barely audible now, before it made a right racket.

Just had the compressor replaced on my 4 year old S205 after a complete failure that resulted in complete loss of air to all 4 struts. Car had to be rescued by RAC on a flatbed. MB dealer replaced: compressor, relay and fuse and no other parts. I assume that the air filter was just swapped over along with the valve block. Seems strange that a filter does not get replaced at some part in the vehicles life. Will contact dealer and try to find out if it was indeed replaced.

I had a 2007 w221 with a split pipe from air filter to pump. Cant have done the system much good. I'd change the pipe and filter.

I think it should be listed on the invoice if they have changed it.

Only the compressor at £330.50+VAT and relay at £9.05 + VAT shown as parts on the invoice. So the old air filter must be reused.
looked through servicing schedules in the booklet that came with the carThat covers all models no reference to the filter there. It seems strange that you have a filter that needs no replacement or servicing. Have found article on line that suggests the filter is replaced from time to time at a cost of €10 plus 20 minutes fitting. ( part No: A2203200069)

It could be that every new compressor comes with a new pipe and filter anyway?

I think it's common practice to change the relay when the pump is changed, I'm not sure what the reason is though. I suppose you might as well change the filter whilst all the panels are off. The rubber pipes seem to be made from a soft material which splits eventually, letting unfiltered air into the pump. I replaced the pipe between filter and pump with some thicker clear tubing when I did mine.

Order two filter going to change them out when doing rest of the service every year 👍
And this first air pump service I going to replace much more things as well.

They are not service parts :)
You could just heat them in oven if they are not gone 'paste'

There are plenty of Wabco compressor repair kits in ebay where silica is sold too. There has been plenty of discussion acout material of beads, some claims they are just regular 'do not eat' silica, some say they are special aluminium(?) oxcide orwhatever (can't really remember) stuff. I think the difference might be can they be 'resurrected'. And a time ago someone found a source where you could order those few kg bags :D. There is business case for sure to sell them further in 100g plastic bags....

I get it now that’s genius going to order some of that 👍 Pump seems to be really sensitive for water because when my cover was broken the pump did release all pressure suddenly and it dropped in the ground, took me about 5 months to figure out it was the cover was in workshop back and forth.

I'm not aware of any mtce schedule. On my 211 mine soldiered for 10 or 11 years and something like 120k miles.

It was a noisy old thing. It sounded like a diesel generator behind the dash when it fired up. Most out of keeping with the rest of the car.

Can't hear a peep out of the one in the 212.

150 € total. Not order filter 10 euro already got that.
