Hi all,

A friend collected an M reg SL320 yesterday, from a yard in St Albans. Everything seems in order, although I was a little surprised that he didn't get it inspected first!

Can anyone recommend a London based business/facility known for their inspection ability?

He's near AMC, but they don't list inspections as something they do.....

Not living down there I am not sure but having read all good story's about George Fraser, wouldnt he be able to conduct an inspection?

I thought about GF, but couldn't remember if it was something they did well.

/me remembers that I owe George £50!

Hi Scott,

GF is good, but the biggest issue you'll have is to find the time with him so that you can have you undivided attention. He is very busy, but having said that, I have always found that for the time he does give you, he'll be purely focused on you. So if you're expecting him to take out 1/2 hour to see to your friends car, it might not happen, but if you're willing to leave it with him for a day to check it over, then i would definately recommend him.

In the past i've left a car with him overnight, so he can drive it home to ensure he's happy with it.

I have heard that Steve Redfearn does a good job re inspections.
He is in Wimbledon SW19 Tel No 0208 540 2311

I turned up without booking at GF's with my SL60 and he put it straight on the ramp and spent at least 30 mins giving it a good going over.
best to call first though I think!

If he is near Golders Green I can recommend a place I took my car who specialises in mercedes, he had 3 SL's in there when I took my car, and it's the manager that deals with you every time.

I hope all goes well with any inspection because it sounds like money has already exchanged hands?

Good luck,
John

Hi All,

I am the friend who purchased first... and inspected second

I went to AMC in South West London on Garret Lane (Primarily because they are about a mile from my house) They are Merc and BMW specialists http://www.bmwserviceslondon.co.uk/

I am pleased to say that the car got a good report :bannana:
They found the following:
- slightly perished belt (advised to wait to the 91K service)
- AC needs regassing (think I may just wait until summer for that one)
- brake fluid slightly dirty (again advised to wait to next service)
- Battery failed drop test (already replaced with a BOSCH silver)
- Worn rear tyres (which I already knew about)

I was happy with the service I received from AMC, very professional and they did the inspection while I waited, took about 1 hour and cost just over £100

Would happily recommend to any one looking to do a pre ( or post ) inspection.

With the a/c, i would not recommend waiting until summer. If the A/c parts arent kept working, chances are seals will perish etc... best to get it fixed now to avaid a steep bill later...

Thanks for the advice Jaymanec... and you are probably right.
I have been burned with AC before on my 98 Passat in Australia.... during the course of 12 months I had to replace the evaporator and the compressor!!! very expensive exercise, so I guess I am not that keen to do it again
