Whether its a MAF or not a MAF

I replaced my MAF about 6 months (12K miles ago) and have just had an A service in Dec. Does anyone have experience of when slowing down from approx 30 to 10 mph of the car dropping into first with a surge of revs and trying to roar forwards? this has now happened 3 times since the service, and the box doesnt seem to know which gear it should be in. A concern if i slow for a pedestrian and i suddenly surge fwd, it could be time for fresh underwear. Does this sound like a faulty MAF or should i be looking elsewhere?

I don't think the MAS/MAF has anything to do with the gearbox, the only reason mine's shown strange behaviour is because I've had to push the gas pedal further to make the same progress when it's playing-up, which causes the gearbox to take interest.

My car has also shifted a little oddly when slowing down, but only during the first couple of minutes of the journey when the engine is still under 80°

I think that this might be a "feature" of a cold Mercedes

I wish you were correct, but it cant be cold after a 30 mile trip home from work at 85 plus most of the way. I have had the cold treatment before so I know what you mean, but this is totaly different. Its akin to running on 4 then suddenly the other 2 cyl cut in with that type of surge.

It could be anything I suppose. I'm trying to get my car diagnosed but it's proving difficult, I don't really want to wait a fortnight! It'll only take them 5 minutes, surely? :(

That's how long my last fault took to diagnose.
