I'm about to bite the bullet (I think!) and buy a set of 22" Vossen CVTs for my S63 coupe. The tyre size I have been recommended is 295/25/22 for the rear and 245/30/22 for the front. The only tyres they can offer are Falken FK453. I have had these on previous cars and they are fine but ideally would've gone for some Michelin 4S's but they seem to be out of stock everywhere.

Can anyone or does anyone know of any other places apart from Blackcircles, Camskill, Oponeo, Protyre that I can check? I currently have Continentals on the factory 20" wheels and they are awful!

Cheers

And you think 22's will be any better than 20's?? Will look good but ride like a bag of spanners...

I can't see anywhere than mentions 22's will be any better than 20's, I was after branded suggestion of tyre that is available as an alternative to Falken? As for riding like a bag of spanners could you elaborate as to why it would? I understand a lower profile tyre would make it a little bumpier but unsure what a car riding like a bag of spanners actually is?

22" ! Less acceleration , less handling , etc .

Correct me if i'm wrong but surely having a lower profile tyre compensating for a larger wheel would have no or barely any detrimental effect on acceleration? The current Continentals barely lets me get off the line so anything will be an improvement. As for handling wheel size would be irrelevant, again at the moment the current tyres are bloody awful.

Thanks

If we assume the rolling radius is staying the same the increase in wheels size will result in:
1. Increased aesthetics
2. Improved handling (less give)
3. Harsher ride (less give)
4. Less pot hole protection
5. Increased costs

If you are increasing the rolling radius:
1. Handelling could be impacted as rolling radius will increase.
2. NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) will increase but this also depends on the brand and type of tyre you put on.
3. Rolling resistance increases, therefore MPG will be detrimentally effected.

Thank you very useful :). Tyre Leader are very reasonably priced as well!

Would having air suspension be more effective than conventional springs?

Should that not be

245 front
275 rear
To maintain same rolling radius and everything that comes with it

also I really wouldnt go for 30 let alone 25 profile tyres. Those expensive Vossens wont be worth much if they crack from being used with such a SUPER low profile tyre!

I love my wheels dont get me wrong Im not a die hard 'must stay stock ' guy but I have personal experience with this stuff and those tyre sizes are what I call the danger zone!

What J are these wheels? 10 & 11?

I once had 20” Brabus alloys on my E55K with 25 profile on the rear and it literally felt like I was driving without rubber on the alloy.

Not enough bounce not enough protection between rim and road ontop of that maybe possible that if your air pressure is slightly off you will be at higher risk than say something with a thicker tyre (as youre already close to the tarmac)

Seriously, its the danger zone

Yes can look bad-assh but protect those rims and your pocket I say?

GOLF R new shape comes on 20 inch wheels with 25 proile as an interesting non MERC fact for you ;

I've had 25 profile before and to be honest the ride was fine for me. It's the third car in our household so is barely used and they will only be on during the warmer, dryer months.

Width wise fronts are 9 and rears are 10.5.

Fair enough if youve tried and tested

I guess some people arent as carefull / not ideal for a daily driver perhaps

I never even realised the new cars were capable of 22s with ease so I would be interested to see a photo of them on the car if you get them

Also try 4x4 tyres.com for tyres

Just had a loook here Tire Size Comparison really good site that I found which shows the 245 & 295 you mentioned initially is bang on for rolling radius etc -
But close alternatives I found were 245 & 275 or 245 & 285

Out of interest is it not possible to get 35 profile and 30 under the arches? Or is it just about making it on the 30/25 setup? Im interested to know

Gives an idea of how they would look, only difference with these are 255 instead of 245 front tyres.

Still not a fan of that Wave that goes down the side :eek:o_O:(

Well 22" wheels now been fitted, so far so good. It has made absolutely zero difference on comfort, from the inside you wouldn't even notice the profile of the tyre. Of course the worry about hitting potholes is higher though but thankfully not too bad around my way. Also fitted lowering links to drop her down a bit (will be bringing the back up a little though from the pics). I have also removed the centre boxes so I can hear the engine sing a bit better! I had blacked out all of the chrome around the windows and added black badges but didn't really like it so went back to the chrome!

Few pics of her....
