OK have been doing my homework and got it down to two. Normally use R222 wax which is brilliant and gives a deep wet gloss but not very durable

So thinking of switching to Collinite 915 or 476s But which is the best it will be for the W208, Ford Kuga, VW Beetle and whatever my new daily driver is So what do the panel think?

Not much help, but there is such a ridiculous choice of waxes and budgets to consider. Waxes, Sealants & Paint Protection - Detailing World

I know I spent a lot of time on DW and looking at reviews that's how I got to the two Collinite products but finding it difficult to make the call between the two.

As for budget don't want to go over £40

I've used 476 for winter use and found that durable. Summer I tend to load the car up with Zaino show car shine, followed by Z6 and Z8 sealant, really gives a good finish and beads amazingly well.

This is of course after pre wash, fallout remover iron x, lots of snow foaming, claying with a mitt DA with scholl concepts products, wash, ipa panel wipe down onto paint cleanser. My wife thinks I'm bonkers it normally takes me anything up to 4/5 days to clean the car properly including the underside.

Life's to short eh!

I'm the same regime as you although I use a rotary with hexalogic pads poorboys ssr2 and ssr1 followed by black hole glaze then R222 wax and as you after lots of prep snow foaming iron removal and cloying

Just done my daughters VW beetle top to bottom this week looks just like it should be in the showroom

Don't trust myself with a rotary yet! I Can imagine plenty of strike through if I did

Never been a fan of Bilt Hammer products I know people swear by them but any I've used have been pretty cheap and nasty and no durability I'm a bit of a believer in you get what you pay for and things are cheap for a reason.

This means I probably over pay on occasions but If I'm happy with the quality and result I'm ok with that

Ok not thought about it this way I'm happy to use one wax for winter and another for summer. All cars have been fully detailed in prep for summer using the regime I posted above so from here on in it will only be glaze and wax until I prep them for winter

So as we coming into summer what would you recommend? I'm open to all suggestions within budget

Following a recommend on this forum, I bought a one litre bottle of this to test Autosmart - New Topaz Polish from Ebay. The big tin is about £35 I think.
So far, I have only used it on the SL, one coat, as a test and so far, I am quite impressed. Whilst it will never get as deep a shine as a full prep and multi-layer treatment, it does give decent depth and shine. Protection seems to be good; with one application (one layer) post wash using a damp sponge, it is still beading well and it is only now in week four that there are a couple of water/dirt rings on the paintwork. The car is not garaged.
It is supremely easy to apply and remove; it took me less than fifteen minutes without rushing. Even if it doesn't last as long as other products, I intend to use it regularly simply for ease of use/time saved for good result……..there is nothing better than a beautifully prepared car but obtaining almost as good a result with minimal effort is a nice stop gap in between big detailing marathons.

I nearly wen the Topaz route but reviews are either 1/10 or 10/10 so discounted it. Would be interesting to see how the durability goes as I'm not in any rush as have just done all the cars

I will update when I do the SL and test on the Vito and C. I am not expecting it to outlast something like Collinite (which I found difficult to apply and remove) but that is balanced by ease of use. It is almost as quick as using Sonax Extreme Brilliant Shine Detailer which I rate highly (I use it on my wheels and brightwork).

Ease of application and removal is very important to me also I can't stand waxes that are difficult to take off or leave powdery marks which is why I don't use AG products and originally went for the R222 as that also is 15 minutes start to finish just wish it would last longer

Aren't they all much of a muchness - apart from the price?

Zymol, Mer, Autoglym, a microfibre and a bit of elbow grease once in a while.

I've been asked more than once what 'polish' I use and the answer is I use polish only to remove marks, otherwise Zymol and Turtlewax shampoo are enough.

I remember once many years ago watching a bloke in French market doing a demo of Mer wax. He had a very glossy black Merc, which he polished the bonnet of then poured some petrol on it and set it on fire. When it had burned out the gloss was untouched.

All these expensive detailing liquids are just a means of separating a bloke from his cash. Slap on a bit of Turtlewax with a duster and rub. More than adequate.

Pinnacle waxes all day long, everything else is a substitute at a similar price point IMO.

You can pay less sure, collinite etc etc may well be very good waxes, but i have yet to get a better finish than using pinnacle.

Signature series 2 is superb, I have now moved on to souveran which makes the paint look even more wet....

There is a minefield of choice out there however/.....:wallbash:
