I'll be replacing the windscreen wiper/s on my S210 and Sprinter in the near future.

Crystal clear vision is important so can anyone recommend the "Ultimate Wipers" from personal experience?

I don't mind paying a premium price if the wipers do the best possible job.

TIA.

Paul.

I've only ever tried Bosch and Halfords. The Bosch blades worked better in light rain conditions where the Halfords ones would jump a bit. But even with Bosch blades I need to give the windscreen a manual wash to remove bugs etc.

My Audi can only take an Audi single 'floppy' blade which works OK, except the top left is not wiped with as much force as needed. I've seen that floppy blades can now be put on some cars as replacement to the more traditional design. Worth a try at least once I guess?

the Valeo ones are also good, i put a aero style valeo on my c36 and it was way better than the cheap ebay ones.

I have only used either replacement rubbers , which can be bought very cheaply from the dealers and slotted into your existing blades , or if I buy a car with tatty looking blades , new Bosch ones from Halfords , which tend to cost about a tenner apiece , or maybe double that if you need the huge monoblade for a W124 .

I'm pleased to note that Halfords have started to stock chrome finish blades again , which is a bonus for those of us with older models , although so far only in larger sizes .

Valeo work for me.....

Halfords Bosch work for me but getting the curved passenger side one for my C Class is not easy.

The ones from the MB dealer in NZL at least are really the very best I have ever had.

Something I found very strange was right after I removed the replacement blade from the sealed MB box, I ran my thumb and index finger down the length of the blade to "clean it" before fitting (because I really like a very clean screen) I noticed it left a black stain on my fingers just like oil would. Decided not to rub it again but fit it to the car. I have never had a wiper clean the window like a brand new blade straight from the MB box. God only knows what that black stuff was (I was prepared to clean the window if it was oil but thought I would leave it on the blade in case it was a rubber lube) but it works an absolute treat - and is still working 4 months later.

Ok, so you have to pay a bit for the MB blade, but I don't mind that, so long as I can see clearly in the rain & that is does very well.

"Go genuine" would be my advice.

The ones at the hanger lane roundabout aren't too bad.

It's still morning. And I am very stupid. And don't get the joke. Can you explain it please?

And yes I am well aware of the proverb that goes:

He who laughs last
is the one who had to have the joke explained to him...

Yes , these are like the rubbers I mentioned getting from the dealers - always feel very soft and seem to have some sort of lubricant on them .

Only thing is if you buy just the rubber from the dealer it is something like £1.50 as opposed to an arm & a leg for the full blade .

Yes yes, NZD$70.00 for the full blade for a 124 from a dealer in NZL does not leave my wallet without a grimace. They don't or maybe won't stock the rubber insert as a standalone piece. Still, in the rain at night $70.00 is cheap compared to an accident for want of seeing properly. I have a spare in the boot just in case...... :)

I'm lazy - I use MB replacements from the dealer. I think they are very good and he fits them free - well the parts guy does. £30 something if I remember correctly.

Thanks! Maybe I should have got that on my own.
But no such thing as squeegee merchants in sleepy Aberdeenshire...

Nor in Kent thankfully.

Nor in Glasgow , I thought he was referring to a branch of Halfords at said roundabout !

Lost on those of us who live elsewhere !

Me too!!!

Sometimes living in Scotland feels like living in a backwater kind of place. Has its own benefits it seems...

Mant thanks for the replies.

I'm inclined to use the genuine MB wipers (I assume these are the Valeo type) given that MB have probably done all the testing in the first place - hence the glowing reports. :thumb:

I've not really went as far as this but a friend used to polish his windows to allow his wipers to do a better job. Worked a treat to be fair... Can't remember what type or brand of polish it was though...

I thought that had all stopped 10 years ago ??

No longer doing it in central London AFAIK

Good pun by the way :D
