Whining noise from C180

I have a 93 C180 and it makes a whining noise. It sounds as if it is a belt but could there be another reason. My friend has a C200 and it makes the same noise. Do all 4 cylinder mercs make that noise or are ours just noisy due to some basic problem such as poorly tensioned belts ?

On my old 2000 C200 Sport I had the same problem, belt and tensioner were changed and the noise stopped.

Have you tried a bit of WD40 on the belt, this used to stop mine for a while before it was changed

Ermmm - no supercharger on a standard 1993 C180, or a similar age C200 for that matter!
