White 500 SEC AMG Widebody

That was in Kent not long ago......it's made it's way to Northern Ireland where someone else has found out it's not as good as the photos on eBay I guess.

alfie07: It is a real one, as featured in Mercedes Enthusiast a fair while ago.
272bhp from a "breathed-on" early version M117 5.0 (I think back then the standard engine only produced 240bhp).

Darrell: From memory, the main problem with the car was a very poor respray. IIRC, the SEC-Shop had carried out a proper (and very expensive) replacement of the rear parcel shelf with had rusted away in the time-honoured C126 tradition. The owner then decided to undertake a "cheap as chips" respray somewhere. Jaymanek saw the car, and (again), IIRC, therer were run marks in the paint, and over spray on the wheels and seals around the car. I'm sure Jay or someone else can confirm/correct what I've said :)

If someone is prepared to spend good money, correcting the mistakes, it would make be a superb car!
IMO, it also requires an AMG Sebring exhaust and have the orginal wheel finish of white-centres and a polised lip. That would finish the car off beautifully.

^^^^^Not a bad summary actually.

SEC shop did everything behind the doors...parcel shelf, boot floors, arch liners etc...Then I'm assuming the chap ran out of money/patience and toshed the rest together.

Bottom line is though it is real AMG car (Stratton I think) and as such will have an intrinsic value over a non AMG car.

Personally I find this a bit odd, take Jay's car that has been built from scratch using entirely genuine AMG parts and in all likelyhood is a better and correct vehicle, won't have a long term value as one built in a garage elsewhere by an appointed dealer using the same parts.

Its certainly a Stratton car....the leather work on the door panels and seats is similar to the interior that I used to have in my Hammer.

sorry to bring up old topic but wonder how many AMG STRATTON widebodies were made for uk market? How many are still around?

Why did you sell it?

I do love an SEC WB.
Was offered good money for it at the time plus I switched to the dark side buying a BMW!
Wasn't a widebody mind you.

Why would you want a new identity? What did you do in the old one that made you change?

I hadn't thought of that as a possibility. I'm glad it died a death.
