BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- The damage from a railroad train and trestle that caught fire Monday will exceed $1 million, according to Georgia Fire Safety Commissioner John Oxendine.Oxendine said he toured the damaged railroad trestle in Glynn County Tuesday morning after Glynn County firefighters battled a fire of a train carrying automobiles and the trestle carrying the rail cars to the Port of Brunswick on Monday.Oxendine said no cause has been determined. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting in the investigation, but investigators said there is nothing suspicious at this time. There were 16 Mercedes Benz cars that were destroyed in the rail car that burned, each worth $50,000.It's uncertain how long repairs will take.Oxendine said there is a contingency plan to get cargo out of the port, adding that the cargo will have to be trucked to a railyard in Brunswick and put on freight trains there, which will slow down port operations.
