Help needed!
My windows occasionally go down by themselves without any prompting. Obviously a security risk - and a wet bum ain't so nice either.
Any suggestions about awhat to check? Cheapest options first would be good.
Thanks. :(

You need to tell us when this happens mate, is it on a run or when the car is left stationary with engine off?????

Are they electric or manual?

wwindow drop

Brian - thanks.
The windows drop when the car has been left e.g. parked outside a restaurant in Bude one evening, in Hampstead while I was doing an errand, outside the house when the car has been left overnight.
So when the car has been left, stationary, engine off.

So we assume electric windows then !

Sounds like a fault with the auto opening system (i.e. using keyfob to open and close all windows remotely).

Is it all windows - or just the drivers ?

You still haven't said whether they are electric or manual?

However try this test. Put window up and engine off. Place hands both sides of the window and see if you can pull it down?

If it comes down then the mechanism is very worn and needs replacing. The scissor action is week and is relaxing under the weight of the window.

You can get at it by removing the door panel, but they are a B*gger to change in the confined space mate.

Brian - ALL the windows go down. Yes, electric windows.

Oh dear, not good news is it.

As they are electric try one more thing before you panic.

Engine to ON and wind windows down and up electrically individually, when up to top again hold switch to see it it clicks, if it does it is locking up. Then try hands on windows test to see if there is improvement.

Not in panic mode yet. Did as you last suggested. No clicking when switch pushed down when windows closed shut but could not push window down with hands either side of glass (the fault affects all windows not just one). I'm guessing that there is a central controller somewhere? Is there and do they have a fault history? Thanks so far Brian.

What model is you car?

I had a 1993 C220 and had problems with my remote/windows. I had to remove the Scorpion unit which was situated behind the glove box lining.
The unit and my key fob were sent to Scorpion and they returned the unit with a new remote(all re-programed ,I presume). Cost £40. All was ok after.
Hope this helps. :)

Bloody Microsoft... move over to Linux - you wont regret it

If you now cannot move the windows down by hand, then problem may be solved mate. The windows have reset and should be OK now. :)

Thanks to all for suggestion. I'll live in hope..........

This was one of the many faults on my CLK. On 3 occasions came back to it and all the windows were down, doors unlocked and boot wide open! Dealer tried various things to fix and ended up changing the wiring loom. That fixed it - whilst making the hood switch inoperable, but that's another story ..............

7 months of MB hell left :(
