Wasn't sure where to put this, so admin please move if it shouldn't be here.
I was about to go on a long trip and got into the car, turned the key but the front wipers didn't come on (screen was wet). There was no warning anywhere on the dash so I took key out, put it back in again but nothing. However the rear wiper was working. A friend checked the fuses, all seemed fine. He took them out and put them back in, the wipers did one pass but then nothing again. I started the engine, reversed a bit and still no wipers or any warning.
So I phoned breakdown, they said 'have you opened the bonnet?', which both I and my friend had on separate occasions. They said if the bonnet is open the wipers won't work, as it was a safety feature. I checked again, and yes the bonnet was ever so slightly open, but not so much that either of us noticed.
Well there is nowhere in my user manual that states this - in fact, it says that if you have the bonnet open and the wipers on you can be injured. So clearly this 'safety feature' must have been introduced after the manual was written, and if it is a safety feature, why isn't there a dashboard alert (as the car alerts me of just about everything else).
Do later cars have any mention of this in the manual and have an alert (mine is a 2014 model)?
Anyhow, I'm glad all is well!
