Hi guys,I am keen but nervous to wrap some trim on my CLS.It seems it would be risky to wrap any trim without informing my Insurance company. To mitigate any increase they may wish to charge, would this work?
If they would agree,In the case of an accident, my fault or the other persons fault,(Hopefully it would only be the case if it was my fault),I would at my expense, repair or replace any item that I have specified with my Insurance company that has been wrapped.
Bearing in mind that my excess is £800.
I am talking front grille (Panamericana) rear diffuser CLS63, side mirrors, door handles, boot spoiler.

Surely they would be quids in?
Costs to me
Front end collision, would be just Panamericana grille at about £320.
Rear end collision, would be rear diffuser at about £500.Possibly boot spoiler at say £300.
Side on collision, would be say, one door handle, not sure but say £300.Possibly £500 for a door mirror.

So in any event, my total outlay would be less than £800, which is my excess amount.

Any thoughts?

I see no problem with that as the insurance may or may not take the contact the incident as
"information only." IE, you told them you was involved in an accident which resulted in no claim on your or the third party's ins IMO

Some jerk crashed into the back of iur car in May last year - his car seemed damaged mine was superficial - I told the ins as I got cops out - as the other car was not insured etc and I had no repairs cost etc, the ins company took my claim as "information only."
However, I guess you still have to declare it next time you insure your car and I believe the period they ask about is 5 years.

If there are costs involved even out of your own pocket and amount to something over xx pounds and you tell the ins company, they may view it differently.
Just ask your ins company as they all operate slightly differently to stuff like this.

Hi, sorry, what I was suggesting is that even with body damage to my car, I would pay for the declared items/wrapped items that were declared as mods on my policy. For example a front end collision with a new bonnet required and a new wing and a new grille.
As the grille would be Panamericana,I would pay for a new grille as agreed on my declaration of mods.
The point of all this would be that the insurance will never have to pay for anything I have modified and I get complete comp cover as per normal and they cannot turn round and say INSURANCE VOID,MODIFICATIONS NOT DECLARED.

The main point is, that as I have declared the mods and they have agreed that I am liable for their replacement, they will not charge me any extra on my policy.

I would discuss with your insurance company as I'm aware of one company, but can't recall which one, which would not offer cover of any form on a car which had been 'wrapped', whether fully or partially.

Its not just about the value of the modifications. The insurance company may regard someone who has made certain mods as a 'boy racer' and a higher risk which I'm sure the OP isn't

Exactly....or you could say that about any part. "Don't worry mister insurance man...I'll pay for the upgraded turbo in the event of a crash!" Premiums are affected by many things other then the cost of replacement parts.
