I'm guilty of using Yahoo for my email because it was one of the first available and free.
But times move on, not only do they regularly get hacked and have all their customers details stolen, they now no longer like me using an ad blocker and are asking me to remove it and accept all their adverts.
Because I won't do that, they now make we wait for a 15 second countdown when trying to access my mail every time.

So, who do we think is better, free and doesn't mind ad blockers?

I’d look at gmail unless you are totally paranoid then you will need to look at private hosting

I'm just embarrassed I stayed with them for so long, should have jumped ship years ago, despicable company at best!

For me outlook is clear and straight forward. The free version tolerates an ad blocker with a small hit on screen space which can be removed if you pay for the premium version.

Gmail is about the de facto standard for free email.

If you apply 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) your account won't get hacked (assuming you do have a reasonably recent model of smartphone).

And you can use Gmail webmail even with ad blockers.

What you can also do is purchase your own email domain name, e.g. from GoDaddy, this way you can use Gmail in the background and have your own email address that won't change even if you change you email provider again. But that's optional.

Use Gmail. It's the most common free mail service right now. Fast and very reliable. I still use my Yahoo mail though.

Still on Hotmail (Outlook) since 1997 - virtually no spam and fast to load.

I would suggest any of the following: altavista , netscape, excite, aol and compuserve so that you can maintain the look and feel that you're used to.

Have been with yahoo since I first got a computer, no problems with ad blocker but I haven't updated to the newer version when prompted to do so. I have recently got gmail on my phone as well, but hardly ever use it.

I now have an Outlook & Gmail accounts and no longer need to rely on Yahoo.
I'm guessing they're attempt to get everyone to disable adblockers has backfired, a lot of customers appear to have switched and the warnings suddenly stopped appearing after a month or so.

efo whats wrong with your ISP email set up ? But if need be Gmail . But all my emails go through my ISP TalkTalk -yes i know say no more ;-
One of the challenges of using ISP provider services is what happens when you change ISP? It’s certainly an option but I would prefer to keep email separate from ISP.

I would go for the service which is most likely to survive long term. Migrating Mail between platforms is a challenge for individuals, so changing can be a headache.

There are ways of avoiding the need to change email addresses though. Registering your own domain means you have control over the addresses you use.

Me too. Since 1990!
