W164 AMG engine "ticking time bomb" (!!??)

The design of the head bolts didn't actually change until 2009/2010, so he is wrong on the first count! The Mercedes specialists I have spoken to about this problem confirm that only a small number of cars were / have been affected by this problem. A warranty company shouldn't exclude a...

milky/film on amg c class sport wheels

The 'milkiness' is caused by moisture getting under the lacquer and causing it to go opaque. Spraying lacquer on top will not help; the affected wheels will need to be sanded back and redone.

    Bumper tab/lug broken

A SMART repairer should be able to do this for you as most carry plastic welding equipment and should be able to improvise to create a new tab.

hand print on w204 door pillar

I have seen this before and it is caused by sun / hand cream, some of the properties of which react with the surface of the lacquer. It can be removed using a mild compound and a machine polisher (it needs to be 'cut' out).

Who do you insure you ** amg with?

I am with LV for my C63 AMG PP. They accept modifications and the premium was competitive.

    Which cutting compound?

Just to clarify, the paint is underneath the lacquer. It's the lacquer that you will be polishing, not the paint. Modern ultra high solid lacquers are actually thicker than the medium solid lacquers of several years ago. When using a polisher its technique which is important, not allowing...

    Which cutting compound?

I do this professionally with a rotary polisher and use 3M Fast Cut Plus, which in my opinion is the best cutting compound out there. As has already been recommended, use a clay bar first.

    After bodyshop

Lacquer takes time to fully cure and although it may appear cured within 40 minutes or so, it will only be so on the surface. This will be fine for getting it wet (rain) but not so good if you wash it and there are contaminants such as grit on the sponge. Be careful with jet washing...

How long will you keep your car?

Great cars; I had a B10 3.3 and a E39 2.8, which had been fettled with Alpina springs and dampers. Sublime ride and handling in both.

How long will you keep your car?

I have only owned my C63 AMG PP (W204) for a few months and love it although I would be tempted to change it for the 'new' E63S in a few years when the price has come down a bit.

What is going on - No more Petrol/Diesel by 2040

A very good point! Global famine rather than pollution maybe a bigger world issue by 2040!

What is going on - No more Petrol/Diesel by 2040

As always, the devil is in the detail and the headline is not so 'grabbing' when you see it only applies to new vehicles after this date. The alternative fuels and infrastructure to accommodate these alternative fuel vehicles will need all of this time and more to offer a viable replacement...

    New C63 Owner :)

I think you would be lucky to find a bodyshop who would do it for less! To do the job properly the door mirror casings need to be removed and the dlr /indicator unit removed /unscrewed from the housing, before repainting / relacquering the covers, so no, not expensive!

Looking for some opinions on ML300

To have any legal recourse you should have given the supplying dealer the opportunity to put right the problem which you identified, within a reasonable time scale. If they had refused you would have had recourse under The Sale of Goods Act and the right to have the repairs done elsewhere...

    New C63 Owner :)

An easy job for a mobile SMART repairer (I do them all the time). Budget about £120 per pair.

    bumper paint scratch

There are some Chips Away guys who are very good at what they do. I am independent, not part of a franchise but I know a couple of Chips Away guys who have been around several years (so they must be good with all the charges they have to pay) and do a good job. There is no problem either...

    bumper paint scratch

I am surprised that you are running down SMART repairs particularly as your work in the industry?! I have carried out SMART repairs working on some high end cars (Porsche, Bentley, Aston Martin and Mercedes and am happy to offer a lifetime warranty on the work I do. I only use top quality...

Benz On The Green 2018 @ GOODWOOD. Your thoughts?

Goodwood is a great venue, with an excellent atmosphere, so very well suited for what is planned imo.

    bumper paint scratch

There is no reason why a well executed SMART repair to a corner of a bumper cannot look as good as a bodyshop job, with the correct preparation and finish off. In any event a bodyshop would probably want to respray the whole bumper and charge accordingly!
