HI tombell I am having similar problem with S350CDI 2012. Added Mercedes Ad Blue - msg wont go off. Just before warning sign came on had it into MB specialist who diagnosed Nox sensores. Would be interested what you outcome was.

My unederstanding is pre-facelift (to 2009) W221's had the asterix (cusomisable button) on the left bottm end of the conole. With facelift the blind button occupies that position, menwile the aterix button has move to bottom right.
