C class 250d Has anyone had a problem with the EML on &adblue count down.took it to different mechanic including mercedes they all saying it nox sensor except mercedes as they replaced it as part of recall mercedes have advised me to have the adblue tank drained&fresh add blue as this could be the cause

To be certain what it is the cause the whole system needs to be analyzed .
OK start with the DEF fluid what is it to the specified gravity? Take a test sample.
Next step, test the dosing system using a bi directional scanner ,will the pump deliver 5000HPa under test and in practice deliver 3800 HPa when working?
And the dosing valve -take it out, look at it furred up, , test it & does it deliver the specified amount delivered into a burette in cc's.
OK next step is the exhaust system flowing properly , might the Cat be partially blocked up ? Check for stored ash & soot on the scan tool
Read off EBP
and then differential pressures across the SCR cat. Do they meet spec?
What are they getting in live a data figures if they don't know ?

On a road test is the system actually trying to reduce NOx , is it dead , or are the reduction across the SCR cat more than 50% NOx reduction minimum or bests 75% plus.
If it goes lower than 50% it will flag a code.

These are the basic tests that need to be done & recorded by scanner print out and presented you as the customer to approve fixes. NOT GUESS .
This sounds from your narrative like Mexican shops on the Baja that don't see these systems too often, unless its US/Canadian Gringos visiting the peninsular with MB products, like Sprinters .

As back story MB is traditionally "tight" with tech info unless you are dealer and they don't like sharing info with Independents.. Get the picture?
This is in direct opposition from Ford USA that conducted FOC training for independent techs nationwide in 2010 .
Since F Series truck has the same Bosch system as all MB's it was easy to use the tutorial in the early days to analyze and fix these systems without damaging Ford product confidence .

Hi. So I had the same problem. I pulled the code P203b. Problem with the Adblue tank sensor. Took it in under warranty. Tank was replaced.

Bought a 62 Plate Merc ML at the beginning of May. A week ago I got message something like "1,700 miles before AdBlue runs out". I filled AdBlue to the brim. EML light still on. Tried all the tricks on the web to turn it off. No Go. Next day "600 miles engine won't restart". Took it to MB Oxford today. They are getting 2 Nox sensors for the end of the week. They want £1,871.52. and will have to remove exhaust. 3.8 hours
Does anyone have the part numbers for the nox sensors and the adblue tank

HI tombell

I am having similar problem with S350CDI 2012. Added Mercedes Ad Blue - msg wont go off. Just before warning sign came on had it into MB specialist who diagnosed Nox sensores. Would be interested what you outcome was.

The outcome is usually the same; 1. MB fit new sensors and / or an ad blue tank, and 2. there is a reasonably hefty four figure bill. Well heeled owners wince a little and are surprised at just how expensive the parts are, the less well heeled owners wish they had never bought an ad blue equipped car.

Very helpful thank you

Aslo tried my luck wiht MB on Nox sensor. Wnet to MB MK first - they suggested booking into the dealer - usual game to lighten the wallet by £175 for doing nothing. Spoke to my local MB dealer - I have full SHbut age of car will not allow NOX coverage by MB. Interestingly they said MB UK were starting to cap NOx claims to about 5 year old cars - might of he
lp to others.

Just curious as to why they included the gearbox underbody cover in the quote? (unless yours was damaged of course)

it was missing when i bought the car

If you could find someone to remap the Nox sensors out then you are finished with adblue. They are a real pain.

There is a gadget in one of these posts which just plugs in under the dash and cuts out "Your engine will not restart"etc.. Think it's £200 or so

My 65 plate E Class is going through exactly the same problem now. Just been quoted just under a grand to replace a NOX sensor after paying £150 last week to reset the adblu and EM warning light. At least one NOX sensor was replaced 18 months ago under warranty. The team have said they're going to present a case to the HQ in Germany (apparently) to see if they can waive any of the bill. That vehicle has spent more time in MB garages than it has on the road and I suggested they could keep it; I won't be paying a grand every 18 months.

I still think the MB Club member who made a post that an MB mech had suggested that he had read some instruction about drilling a 3mm hole at the lowest point of the Cat where Adblue can accumulate to let it drain out before it sloshes around and immerses the Nox sensors and disables them has a point. I still haven't done it but the fear of having to shell out another £1,500 if the sensors need replacing again really worries me

Lad next door has been quoted £1200 for new dpf and Nox sensors on a Citroen cack Tus . We are not alone ...
