Bought this car, 2 days ago, so far spent the following;
1 off serp idler pulley
1 off serp idler damper
then I discover the crack in the rocker
1 off serp belt rocker £30.50 M17130
1 off serp belt £8.75 M13360
and while I'm at it a new hood ornament because the old one was floppy £16.60...
This is the aluminium jobbie that the LOWER end of the damper and spring attach to.
I have noticed mine has a small hairline crack on the outside web at the damper end.
I've ordered a replacement from GSF, due in tomorrow.
Question is this, I have popped off the cover and can't quite see what...
I've swapped out the idler pulley as the bearing was a bit gone.
Got a damper too but the lower bolt won't retract far enough with the water pump pulley in the way.
Query is this, is the 8mm allen / socket screw that holds the viscous fan coupling to the water pump a LEFT hand thread?

The big long bolt on the oil filter of my wifes 1993 300TD needs 2 little o rings at the bottom of the bolt, the genuine filter does not have these o rings and the EPC lists o rings that are the same size when clearly they are different sizes. Parts dept were of no help.

As subject, shop manual for a 1986 W124 E class with 603 (non turbo) diesel and auto box and no ECUs, don't care if it is haynes or any other make, don't even mind dead tree or electronic, but must cover both drivetrain and body / suspension.

To be clear this is non-turbo straight six diesel in a 1986 W124 body as a 300D. Just purchased by me.
Has the rattle and looking down from above has the "skewed" idler pulley in support of previous owners suggestion that same was on the way out.
