0 - 60 Cdi

thanks guys .. interesting stuff ...

I used to have an BMW 03 530 Sport Auto and this CDi feels about the same if not a bit quicker ... obviously a completely different drive altogether but non the less ... comparible .... not bad !! 80K on the clock I guess it's not goign to get any quicker but ...

Anyone had theirs remapped ? I had my last BMW 525 remapped and it improved the 0-60 but around .5 secs and added 3 - 4 mpg

This is not a complete listing but contains really useful info, this page on gearing for example:

http://www.autoroadtests.com/gearing.php

So a BMW 535d pulls 43.2mph/1000rpm in 6th and 730d/740d nearly as lofty figures whilst the closest equivalent Mercedes were managing 34-ish per 1000rpm out of a five speed.

What are the new 7 speed boxes producing in terms of mph per 1000 rpm?

mine is doing 3000rpm at 100mph.

so thats 33mph/1000rvs ish.

and our trucks here have a 5 speed auto for them daft 2 stroke deisel engines what they have.

100 / 2450 = 40.8mph per 1000 rpm

I was thinking in terms of the E class fitted with a 7 speed box. Suppose that might be a tad lower?

I 'think' that the lower gears are shorter in the E to help acceleration. Don't know about the taller gears.

Remember the Corvette of about ten years ago with a top ratio of 40mph/1000rpm to avoid the gas-guzzler tax that added around $1500 to the price. They built a 5 speed box plus intergalactic overdrive.
There was also an optional key to release the last 100bhp so only the owner could stuff it into the scenery at 160mph.
Maybe that's the way we're going now?

Official MB figures are - from the 2003 brochure.

E270CDI - 0-62mph = 9.0

Moved to engine section.

My 2003 brochure says 9.0 seconds for the manual, 8.4 for the Auto.

For the E220 its 10.1 for the manual, 9.7 for the auto.
