10 second Ticking noise

Hello

just joined I hope some can shed some light on my problem- clk 320 52 plate w209 - I seem to be getting a 10 second ticking noise everytime i turn the ignition on. It seems to be coming from around the glovebox/sterio, even if the sterio is off.

Hi and welcome

The noise you describe is likely to be one of the actuator motors for the heating system it is very common on this vehicle

It all depends on which one it is. Because off the top of my head there is 8-10 of the little motors. Some are easier to get to some require the dash to come out.

It needs to go on a star machine to determine which one it is

Personally i wouldnt book it in at your dealer as which ever on it is they will charge you for taking the dash out.

What area are you in there maybe a good independant near you

Just spoken to MB coventry - £60 for the diagnostic - then depends on the problem could be anything from £500-£1000. I've just taken out a warranty with warranty direct - will make sure its covered before claiming.
I will check for independents as well. I know a guy who worked for MB coventry and now has his own business, see what he says first.

I have the same issue....A dealer will charge over 1K... A good specialist will save you £££

I would charge £25 for a diagnostic check and then all depends on what motor it needs charge accordingly.

I know a delaer will charge about 5-9 hours to do the job as i used to work in a dealer and done many of them

I am no mechanic but this is the same on my new Peugeot and I figure it was something to do with an electronic choke or petrol intake.
It is the same, around 10 seconds on start.
