100 times better?

100 times better?

I think you can aim that at many things.

£2K watch x100 better than a 10yr old £20 watch ?

£2K coat x50 better than a £40 coat ?

£700 pair of shoes x20 better than a £35 ?

£600 new iphone x10 better than a £60 year old android ?

I can't decide whether that's cheating or showing off!

Since you asked, however, we are talking about cars.

You cannot beat a banger as a local runabout. There are no parking worries or seeking out that isolated space at the far end of the supermarket car park. I bought a Nissan Micra for £500, kept it 2 years and sold it for £500. It was totally reliable and gave us no problems whatsoever. It may have looked like an upturned bath tub but it served its purpose well. Sound economics. :thumb:

Ever since i've had my E the above is the biggest issue! I go in a friends VW Golf and it seems just as quite as my car and nearly as comfortable, size is ideal too, of course I wont feel as good when I walk towards it..

I spent reasonable money on a very tidy 2009 W211 with 68k miles on the clock. I figure I'll keep it for 5 years and 60k miles in that time I'll keep it tidy and do what's needed by way of maintenance. when I sell I recon that in terms of total cost of ownership it won't have been a bad deal and I'll have driven around in a very nice car.

Meanwhile somebody has just dropped £40k on my W213, I'll let then do 60k - 70k miles as long as they keep it serviced and generally look after it. That will generate me a 70% discount off list and I'll drive away in a car that to all intents and purposes is like new. Now I just hope they tick the right boxes on the options list...

This is my plan too.

I'm just hoping the current trend for white cars dies away soon. :fail

It's a great plan and yes I'm with you on white cars. But that really well optioned W213 with just 50k on the clock and full MB service history in immaculate condition in black/silver... Hands Off that's MINE:bannana:

In the interim enjoy your W204, great car.

David,

You're best plan is to talk a friend or colleague into leasing said car, convince them that leasing is the best thing,,,,,,,,,,,,,in the world, tell them they NEED all the options (and the colour that you like) to make the 3 year lease as pleasurable as possible.

Once they've taken delivery then scare them to death with horror stories of bad hand back experiences. Tell them the importance of keeping the car in showroom condition.

Then a month before handing back the car tell them it's a complicated and stressful process to handover the car and you'll take it from there.

Jobs a good un. :bannana:

That's a good point. My mate's fully kitted e350 might be mine in 6 years time.

I bought a cheap car to get me from A to B.

Trouble is, I live in Kew.
