156 Vs 157

If someone decides they wanted to buy either. It's a good comparison video to aid someone in the process. That's why I have uploaded it. Stop being so angry chill out. Get some AMG in your life your missing it I think 😄👍
I told you, I'm not angry. Is that so hard to comprehend?
I'll get another AMG when I'm good and ready.
I guarantee it won't have an M156 engine in it either.

As for choosing between the two, I suspect most potential owners have already made their minds up which they prefer without yet another video. Waste of time asking current owners as they'll choose whatever they currently own. So, another pointless exercise designed to create more arguments over which is the better buy.
But you carry on if it makes you happy.

I've had both
Sound wise if you have a PFL zm177 there's not that much init it's just abit deeper the M156 is a good engine and you will never see 1 like it again as for power and drivabity the M177 wins hands down me personally wouldn't buy another M156 engined AMG it has its fanboys but
Is old hat now but saying that my M113 in the SLK sounds on par with the M156 so my preference is the M177 😎

Progress, design hasn't moved on with exhaust note though. Say what you like the m156 is one of the best sounding V8 still to this day. Happy days. I'm in the salty corner sweet is to sweet for my liking 😄🏆👍

I’ve never heard or read anyone on MBClub suggest otherwise. The M156/9 makes a glorious sound 👌🏻

Personally I wouldn't want a gutless 156... has to have a compressor of some kind, and in that case the 113 wins hands down*

*chill, this is just an opinion**, not fact

**the correct opinion though ;)

It does surprise me when I read posts suggesting that the M156 is “gutless” or lacking in torque.

At 2000 rpm there’s 369 lb ft (500 Nm) of torque is available, with 413 lb ft (560 Nm) available at 3000 rpm.

Even now it fares well to more modern naturally aspirated V8, for example the latest Corvette C8 Z06.

Forced induction will of course produce more torque, so on paper there’s a difference, but IRL not so much.

I’ve been lucky enough to drive cars with both the M156 and M157 once or twice, and the M156 didn’t feel lacking.

I was joking, I really couldn't care less. Just amusing people get upset about such silly things... My favourite car was a 1.3 1990 Mazda 323
For many years mother in law had a 323 with great big wheels and remarkably low suspension and loved it. It was this generation:

Mine was the older version. Seem to remember revvy 1.3, overhead cam, low geared, fully independent suspension, power steering, central locking, great handling... Really really enjoyed it 👍

I had a 1986 Mazda 323 GLX 1.5 4 door during my teens very rare for its time, had rear wipers on a saloon car which was weird. The registration number was C165 KVW. Mazda 626 was more popular and the ultra rare Mazda 929, especially in an estate form was a unicorn, I think it was discontinued after a short period, not made any sales in the UK which is understandable.

I always complained about my back, used to hurt after driving on long journeys, 80's Mazda had the worst possible seats, looks nice but not supportive, especially lower back.

Today we have Skyactiv Mazda6, wonderful economical petrol powered FWD car, excellent for school runs and very comfortable. Highly recommend for daily use and long journeys 🙂👍20220807_144118.jpg

My favourite cars/ engines was the E39 M5 just wasn't ready or settled with the manual box. Although it suited it amazingly well. Made a great exhaust note as well. Better than most modern V8. In my opinion you cant produce the sound a N/A engine does. Stick all the turbos and s/c you want on it. Never sound as good. Some of us like it that way 😁

It might not be lacking on its own.... but it certainly feels like it after driving a 157. 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) between 2,500 and 3,750 is a massive difference to the revvy 156s 413lb (560nm) at 3000.

I don't buy my cars for the noise...

Very true.... but a nice one adds to the experience...... but personally I think the 157 sounds great even in stock form. And it you want there are loads of ways to change that sound.

I personally like the sound of the M157 and not because I have this engine on my car. My friend has a CLS63AMG M157 and he's changed the exhaust. It sounds brutal! I wouldn't want my car to be as loud as that as I don't think an S class should be too loud.
He also has a CL63AMG with the M156 engine and the exhaust has been changed on that too but I personally think the M157 out of his two cars sounds the best
