190 2.6

You don't sound certain yourself!

Not keen myself.

Don't like the illegal number plates either so must have been removed if this:

"Car has not long been through a new MOT"

I am always cautious on pictures alone and the plate does throw up a red flag but long ownership.
Possible low miles if the history supports.
Nicer colour and a rare (ish) model? With a bit of poke too ..

They could be show plates I guess.

It looks like the front lights are smaller than normal - is this because of the Zender bodykit?

^ The grille covers part of the headlamp.

It's an SEC grille replica which is quite horrid and I don't think formed part of the Zender kit.

Stupid plates. Otherwise a low spec boggo 2.6.

Totally ruins the point of that silky engine to have power delivery mated to a lumpy Merc manual. But yes, a change!

I think its quite a fun little car ... Would rather have a manual box personally. I bet it has a mountain of history ... Not looked to check if mentioned,

Correct I didn't say it was a good thing. I've had 2.6's in both manual and auto and I personally hated the manual but loved the auto (and I'm not a auto fan !)

Not surprised, horrible little box when it came out and ten times worse at 25 years with rotten linkages.

I'm about to get the linkages re-bushed on my Cossie dogleg as the gear change really is quite horrid now.

Have a word with Druk, when he's back from his hols. He fitted a 5-speed Getrag dogleg gearbox to his amazing R107 turbo diesel conversion. Hated the way the gearbox was spring loaded and on investigation, discovered there is a pin in the linkage which removes the spring tension. Knocking this pin out makes the gear lever work nice and slick, without all that pushing and pulling to find first and reverse.

Interesting Steve, thank you. Getting into reverse is pretty horrible, especially with carpel tunnel in my left hand. I am told that replacing all the bushes with brass ones really transforms the box into what it should be, a rival for the Getrag fitted to the E30 M3.

Bass bushes sure help but have to be dead on the right size or else the retaining clips can come adrift. Also too, it's well worth rebuilding the lever selector assy (where the gear lever mounts), plenty of possible wear there too, have a look at a parts diagram and you'll see what I mean.

Another 'trick' is to extend the linkage rods by approx 13-25mm, I haven't done this but have heard very good reports. All that's needed is one old rod and a little bit of welding.

Of course having good engine & g/box mounts helps along with clean ATF.

Hmmm, I actually don't hate that. I bet the grill covering the lights looks naff in the flesh, as it were, but just looking at the photos I quite like the look.

I never like an advert for a car that admits to having a problem that is cheap and easy to fix... yet the owner hasn't done it... probably won't be cheap and easy then.

Agreed - enough to put me off even asking questions of the owner as there's a doubt you'll get anything near enough the truth. :-(
