190E 2.5-16
Hi guys 16v owners.
My 2.5-16 (non Evo) is now long overdue for a top overhaul. Never done since 1990. Of late it's losing some compression especially on cylinder no 2.
I've been buying parts needed except for the valve stem seals, so l just wanna check with you guys if these parts are correct:
Bought as a set it's Febi Bilstein 06647 which includes:
Intake Febi Bilstein 08916/ oe 1020530358
Exhaust Febi Bilstein 06645/ oe 1020531658
Appreciate detailed advice.

Cheers
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

Can’t comment on the suitability or quality of the Febi parts but have you got a price from Mercedes?

It’s been a few years now but last set I bought weren’t expensive from the main dealer.

Have you got somewhere lined up to replace the valve guides and re-profile the valves and seats etc?

If you look at the Febi website link in detail it says the parts are correct as per my screenshot, but l just wannabe doubly sure hence this post.
Yes there's a classic Benz specialist who have been servicing my car ever since my long ownership of it.

Febi are a re-box operator and although they might be okay it’s difficult to be sure of compatibility or quality. I’m pretty sure that they won’t be manufacturing valve stem seals for an M102 engine.

For a low price part with large labour involved in fitting I would recommend using only genuine parts or OEM supplier (eg Victor Reinz) if you know they’re correct.

I’ve seen several incorrectly listed non-original parts for the M102.990 16v engines over the years - I think sometimes suppliers forget they are different to the regular 8v engines

Noted Will. Since l have the oe part numbers l'll look for the Benz or Reinz instead. Thanks.

Biggest regret when I refurbished/refreshed a head on my car was not, having looked at the valve rims, just buying new valves. They needed a lot of grinding to get them to seal with the valve seats, and the top end always sounded a but noisier after which bugged me all the time (although the car did another 50k then scrapped car due to rust). The valve seats were in much better condition, so with 20:20 hindsight...

Just something to look out for and take a view on when you get it all apart.

We're changing those as well, yes with head out it's best to refurbish it properly. Thanks.

SWAG [BILSTEIN GROUP]do a kit 10 34 0003-choice of OTHER kits from speed autoteile in GERMANY

I’m not sure who the OE was for these, I remember Elring made most of the OE gaskets for M102 engines.

I’d definitely get a price from MB though, or ask whoever is doing the engineering work if they can supply the guides and stem seals?

Will,
I can't get the seals here in my country. Cossies are rare here.
Can you point me to who supplies them in the UK please.
Cheers

It was over ten years ago when I last bought some 16v stem seals but I used my local main dealer (Mercedes-Benz) here in the UK. They should be able to order them in for you even if they come from Germany so long as they are still available as spare parts.

Where abouts are you based?

If parts availability is a problem for these then I can fully understand using other sources but I wonder how you will source the other parts likely needed for this work to be completed?

Quite a few parts engine parts seem to be main dealer only for these - have you got everything else you need?

I do have new parts for the rest, took month to source, except for the valve stem seals.

Will, problem is main MB dealer here will not source a one off old parts anymore. All the other parts l got are from independent dealers. So far so good except for the valve seals...🥺

Hi @Jimmy Hamzah

If you can get me the Merc part numbers, I will put in an enquiry at a Merc dealer and price up buying them and shipping to you. Probably best to provide your VIN and engine varient, although i suspect the dealer might not be able to cross reference if it's not UK registered?

I'll need to check customs paperwork or whatever as well. Payment would be in advance if you are happy to trust me. Feel free to PM me car details off this thread also if you don't want to share those publicly.

Cheers,
Mr Greedy

We checked EPC for VIN and engine variant over here and the p/n is 1020500258.

I've put a request for quote in with a main dealer.
And asked whether they could actually get them!
