anybody looking for 1 of these 190E looks like one of the better ones £6950 1990 G plate

Definately a lot of money but that seems a very nice example for someone with the readies.

All of you commenting on the value of W201 16 valves have your ears to the ground & your fingers on the pulse of the 16 valve market do you?

I do, and doesn't have full leather, electric seats, or air con.

It's also one of the least desirable colours to have.

£2k too much IMO.

*laughing*

That website is always good for a bit of a chuckle with the prices and markups.

Still, people seem to buy from there.

It'll sell.

Ignoring the many qualities that make the 16 valve cars the best driver's cars made by Mercedes in the last 40 years, because they only made 5,743 190E 2.5-16s for the worldwide market.

Out of the 5,743 made I'd guess 10-15% were RHD UK versions, most of which have been crashed, thrashed, boy racer modified or neglected since the last one was made 16 years ago.

There are, I'd guess, 100 UK 2.5-16s left which would be similar to this car.

It's a very rare car getting rarer.

There are many people who simply don't peruse the internet but more importantly, the peace of mind of buying the car from a dealer and the protection it affords is worth the premium.

If it comes to what it's worth..it's worth what someone is willing to pay, if they chose to pay it, there is documentary evidence it is actually "worth" that sum.

Say I found two identical cars, one private and one at a known reputable dealer Like Jay for instance. I'd have no problem paying a £1000 - £1500 premium for the dealer sale.

You pay your money you take your choice.

I had quite a few people openly laugh at me for advertising all the items for my project for sale for £12,000...many though I was openly taking the pi$$...bottom line is, it sold for that (actually a little more) as people wanted the bits and pieces.

No, it's not.

I have, however, sold one (my second) for very close to the CCC car's asking price. It too was smoke silver, half leather, basic spec with a fantastic service history & ran like the wild wind.

It would cover ground faster than car's costing 10 x as much, regularly embarassing the ignorant.

nice to see some 16vs holding at that price, i agree with neilrr

it is extremely hard to find a 16v with 0 rot and in good condition that hasnt been modified / thrashed / damaged

least of all in the more desirable 199, and you can pretty much forget about gettin full leather in good condition then aircon on top of that...

so much so that i and many others have resorted to finding a 16v in the colour they wanted, cut out all the rust, full respray and sourced all the interior else where as its just so hard to find one in that condition with all the toys you want.

so unless your willing to "save" a 16v, your pretty much restricted to the ones that are demanding a high price as there really isnt that many left and i can pretty much guarantee that anyone selling for sub 4k has a reason why... (either that or they havnt done their homework)

saying that i am a tad biased as i love the bloody things! lol

Chris,

How much money will you have spent on yours by the time it's finished?

too much :P

although to bring it back to "standard" about 4k (including buying the car) (+ a yr faffing about) ... (yes i got the bodywork done extremely cheap! and *cough* as a favor)

however with the mods / interior / audio looking more at 7k

then a few more if i pursue turbo / EFI

that bein said im getting alot of my parts with discounts / cheap from friends and i have the luxury of being able to take my time

I had a J reg 190e 2.5-16v, mileage was high at 140k but had £15k of reciepts and then had a further £2k spent by me on it, it was black with full black leather and a manual. Previous owner was the salesmanager of Mercedes Cheltenham. Pretty perfect bar the high miles.

Didn't have electric seats, had aircon too. Wish i still had it :(

I have to agree with Neil.

For anyone to speculate that the CCC car is too expensive, I'd like to see evidence of better cars available to buy for less money.

These are rare cars to find in clean/original condition. They're not depreciating, and you'll struggle to find a good one on the market these days.

I'm not a fan of the speakers in the door cars, but other than that it looks like a good'un. I'm sure it must be in pretty fine fettle to be advertised by a marque specialist like CCC as well - after all they'll have to stand by the car once it sells - not something you can comfortably do with most 20 year old cars.

BTW, I sold one of mine today - so there are definately buyers out there :)

The amount of interest in the car this time was incredible - 160+ watchers on eBay, dozens of emails, cash offers etc - '000s of hits on the advert etc.

Fantastic cars

Will
