Hi, very sadly my lovely car is for sale, it is a 1991 500SL in silver with black leather, 67,000 miles. We are having a second child and I don't forsee having time to enjoy it as it has been in the past, and we have an E220 cabriolet now for family outings.

History

The car has had three owners in total, the first until 1993, the second until 2006 and me since Feb 2006. The car has covered approximately 67,000 miles although the speedometer was changed at 17,000 so shows 50,000 at present, this is fully documented. The car has an amazing service history with EVERY service bill, and EVERY old MOT, and it has been serviced every year since it was new, by Mercedes main delaers until 2006, and specialists from then. There is also an original sales brochure, copies of contemporary road tests, bill of sale and so on. It also comes with some nice accesories such as a JR Tagger window wiper in it's bag still, wind deflector with bag and very rare hard box for the boot, hard top stand with bag, 2 remote keys and so on. The car has original MB ribbed mats in perfect condition and 4 MB mudflaps fitted. The spare is unused with it's label on it still.

Condition

The car is in excellent condition throughout. The previous owner used the car as a weekend toy, and kept it garaged. I also keep it garaged and covered with a car cover, and in the past 3 years it has seen the rain once (on our wedding day sadly)

Cosmetics

Wheels (15 hole) are perfect with Goodyear NCT5 tyres with good tread.
The body work is excellent with straight panel gaps, absolutely no rust, no paint nasties. The only real imperfections are the number plate holder has a crack and the bonnet where it meets the bumper has a small scratch. There is a piece of laquer peeling from one of the mirrors. A car phone aerial hole on the back wing has been plugged with a body coloured cap.

Interior

As new apart from a bit of creasing on the drivers side bolster. All the electrical items work and the AC is cold (regassed 2 years ago) Becker CD head unit. There is no evidence of a car phone being fitted inside.

Hood

As new, no milking to the windows, original MB markings to window panels. It is believed the prvious owner had the hard top on all the time which explains the excellent condition of the roof.

Hardtop

As new, no blistering on the edges

Mechanically

Excellent, very quiet engine, gearbox changes quickly (4 speed), power steering box has been weeping since I bought the car, it never needs topping up so must be everso slight. suspension is perfect, wheels have been correctly alligned as has the suspension geometry. Has only ever had Mercedes original parts fitted.

Driving

Very fast, sounds gorgeous, corners beautifully as you would expect from a well maintained car such as this one.

Faults

Steering box damp
Passenger headrest doesn't go up (tries to but jerks, maybe a firm tap would encourage it?)
Underbonnet sound deadening starting to break up

To sum up this car is completely original (even down to the original Mercedes Alarm stickers on the windows), completely together and of a high specification. If you are looking for a fine SL then this one is well worth a look. It's the same old story, but I looked at a dozen or so until I found this one and bought it on the spot. What did it for me is when I opened the bonnet it looked as new, not tarted up, just as new!

I will take some pictures and e mail to those who have interest.

The price? Open to sensible offers, I will only let it go to a good home.

Thanks
