Been "offered" this by somebody who would like to see it go to a good home (translation: he cannot be ****d to sell it to the great unwashed)

Owned from new by same person, reasonable condition, 7 seats, auto and 130kmiles. No aircon and ikky plastic wheel trims but seems goes well enough.

So what to look out for and what would be a reasonable price. Might take it on with a view to getting it fettled and passed on to No 1 son.

The usual 124 problems really, check windows for operation, rust on wings, fuel filler, jacking points, take off the panels in the bootsides and check behind them for dampness / rust, bottoms of doors etc. I think the 200 is pretty bullet proof, I had one with 238k on the clock still going fine, rear suspension can get bouncy which is the self levelling untis packing up, suspension bushes, etc etc. Wires can fray between tailgate and body, as also between doors and body causing electrical maladies, but they are pretty tough if they have been well looked after.

Price dpeends upon condition and spec, but I suspect it's a sub £1000 car, although I personally would pay more for a really really good one.

As above.

Nice that it's had one owner from new (and you know them quite well?), but other than that it's obviously almost poverty spec - at least it's an auto :)

Might be worth checking the insurance for your son - I wonder if the 7-seater aspect of it could cause complications?

£500 or so if it's in average condition would be about right. If it's in good to immaculate condition (recent service/tyres, long MOT/tax, little to no rust/body damage etc) perhaps twice that or even more to the right person.

If it's very tatty (which I'm sure it's not), anything from a couple of hundred quid upwards.

Nice thing about the car in question is that they're just so cheap and simple to run, and very easy to work on - plus they're tough as old boots. You'll never lose any money on it at all now - just keep it serviced/MOTd etc.

Will
