W124 E320 Coupe
Hi All

I trying to find the starter relay (i thinks its K38) because my alarm has packed up and the car will not start (although it will start fine if you put a live to the starter). I searched the internet and everyone is pointing to the top left behind the instrument cluster, I've searched everywhere behind there and I cannot find it. I there any other location it can be on this model (Coupe). Ive got the welder coming in tomorrow and need to get this moved.

I cannot find it, ive looked everywhere, I managed to fix the Alarm, just opened it up and cleaned it up with contact cleaner, it all working now, thanks for you help.

Just an update, I found the starter cut out wiring that dealers cut and tapped into (I never found the relay behind the instrument cluster). I have attached a picture for anyone who want to disable their old dealer fitted alarm. My alarm model was the Scorpion 918.starter.jpg

The isolation relay behind the instrument cluster is a factory fit item which was fitted for some model markets/years but not others. Around that time it was common practice for UK dealers to fit after-market alarms like Scorpion which usually had one or two relays to break vital circuits to prevent the car starting. This was often down to the dealer / fitter's preference so one might disable the starter solenoid others might chose the fuel pump relay or OVP relay that supplies the ECU/ignition or any combination of two. The changes are seldom documented.:(
